history

The place was in the Fraisch district of the Eichstättischen care office Arberg-Ornbau . In 1615, eight properties and one shepherd's house were named in Unter- and Oberschönau, all of which were subject to interest from the Eichstätt bishopric . For comparison: In 2002 Unter- and Oberschönau together had 13 properties and 65 inhabitants. In the village itself there were four subject families at the end of the 18th century, all of whom had the Arberg-Ornbau caste office as landlord .

With the community edict (early 19th century) the place was assigned to the tax district and the rural community Arberg.
