history

The place name Kemmathen is particularly widespread in southern Germany. It is derived from the Latin word "calminata" and originally referred to a room with a fireplace .

Konrad Ozenberger bought two goods in Kemmathen from Konrad Lauterbach zu Arberg in 1336 and donated them to Heilsbronn Monastery . In 1348 the monastery received 60 pounds of Heller gilt on an estate from the Kemmath brothers. In total it acquired 4 properties.

In 1517 the Fraisch border ran between the Hochstift Eichstätt and the Margraviate of Ansbach on the southern edge of the village in the direction of Heideforst.

In 1615 15 properties were mentioned in Kemmathen. The landlords were the Hochstift Eichstätt (12 properties, including three properties belonging to the Eybburg and the Erbschenkenamt) and the Markgraftum Ansbach (three properties). For comparison: In 2002 Kemmathen had 28 properties.

With the community edict (early 19th century) Kemmathen was assigned to the Arberg tax district . A little later, the rural community Kemmathen was formed, to which the place Goldbühl belonged. It was subject to the Herrieden district court in terms of administration and jurisdiction . The municipality had an area of 3,627 km². On January 1, 1971, this was incorporated into Arberg as part of the regional reform in Bavaria and, from July 1, 1972, belonged to the Ansbach district.
