Valzur is a place in Paznaun in Tyrol and belongs to the municipality of Ischgl in the Landeck district .

geography

The place is 31 kilometers southwest of Landeck , around 6 km into the valley from Ischgl and a good 1 km behind Mathon , around halfway from Ischgl to Galtür , on the left of the Trisanna at an altitude of around 1500  m above sea level. A.

Valzur is statistically classified as Rotte , the typical Tyrolean name for such settlements is Weiler . Originally the place consisted of two districts, Obervalzur and Untervalzur , the latter largely lost its way in a dust avalanche in 1999 . The Valzur industrial area below on Silvrettastraße also belongs to the village .

Between Valzur and Mathon, the Jamtal flows into the Paznaun valley from the south.

History and sights

The place is likely to belong to the early settlements of the Walser , since in Mathon the Sonnseite (Nederseite) was settled first, maybe later than the 13th century.

The Lourdes Chapel in Valzur ( Valzur Chapel) was built in 1897 by the Galtür priest Schranz.

Just one day after the great avalanche disaster in Galtür , another avalanche went off on February 24, 1999 in Valzur and buried half the hamlet of Untervalzur under itself. Seven people were killed. The destroyed houses were rebuilt in the protected area of ​​Obervalzur, in Untervalzur a small memorial with seven crosses commemorates the victims. Today the whole area out of the valley is designated as a red avalanche danger zone .

The business park Valzur was made available by the agricultural community Mathon, so far the Silvretta cable car and an earthwork company have settled here.
