DOCG Offida is a growing region for red and white wines in the region marks ( Italian Marche ) on the east coast of central Italy , named after the city of Offida in the province of Ascoli Piceno .

history

In May 2001 the "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) was declared, which was then upgraded to DOCG Offida in June 2011 .

Cultivation

The DOCG Offida area is located in the southern part of the Marche region in the provinces of Ascoli Piceno and Fermo and covers an area from the coastal zone to the central mountain region. The vineyards are between 50 and 650 meters above sea level.

In 2017, 22,319 hectoliters of DOCG wine were produced.

The DOCG Offida has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and relatively cold and fairly rainy winters. The average temperatures in summer are between 21 and 23 ° C, in winter between 6 and 7 ° C. The average annual rainfall is between 650 and 850 mm, with a minimum in summer (July) and a maximum in autumn / winter (October-December). The annual rainfall is spread over about 80 to 90 rainy days. Snowfalls are relatively rare and mostly low.

The use of at least 85% of the respective grape variety is required. Up to a maximum of 15% other, non-aromatic, white grape varieties that have been approved or recommended in the Marche region may be added.

These white wines can only be sold from March 1st of the year after the harvest.

  • Offida rosso

The use of at least 85% of the Montepulciano grape variety is mandatory . Other, non-aromatic, red grape varieties that have been approved or recommended in the Marche region may be added up to a maximum of 15%.

Wines with the designation "Offida rosso" may only be sold after a total of 24 months of maturation, including 12 months of aging in wood, and 3 months of maturation in the bottle, starting on November 1st of the year of harvest.
