Olaf Scholz (born March 11, 1968 in Düsseldorf ) is a former German ice hockey player who during his career played for the Düsseldorfer EG in the Bundesliga and for the Frankfurt Lions and the EC Ratingen in the German Ice Hockey League .

Career

The 1.77 m tall attacker completed his first professional missions for his home club Düsseldorfer EG in the 1985/86 season , where he was unable to establish himself as a regular player. For this reason, Scholz moved to the 2nd Bundesliga North , where he was initially on the ice for SC Solingen and later for two seasons for EHC Essen-West .

For the 1990/91 season the striker returned to DEG, with whom he, this time as a regular player, was able to win the German championship in both 1991 and 1992 . Olaf Scholz then moved to the third-class league for the Frankfurt ESC , with which he first rose to the 2nd Bundesliga and finally qualified for the newly founded German Ice Hockey League , in which the club's professional team participated under the name Frankfurt Lions .

During the first DEL season with the Lions, the left-handed shooter signed a contract with league competitor EC Ratingen , for whom Scholz played two and a half more years in the highest German ice hockey league. After the 1996/97 season , the striker moved to the second-rate first division North to EC Bad Nauheim , with which he was able to win the league runner- up in 1998 and 1999 , but missed the return to the DEL in each case.

In the 2000/01 season , Olaf Scholz joined the upper division Ratinger Ice Aliens . After two more years with the second division EV Duisburg and the regional division Grefrather EC , the attacker ended his active career in 2003 at the age of 35. Then Scholz worked as a youth coach.
