Oliver Kruse researches and builds subtle structures. He does this as a visual artist, professor of design and board member of the Insel Hombroich Foundation .

Using drawings, analog models, digital reconstructions and virtual constructions, Kruse gains insight into fundamental plastic processes, clusters and swarms . His works position insights and outlooks site-specifically in public space.

Oliver Kruse's works offer situations that can be walked and animated. In these, the world can be experienced and questioned three-dimensionally as a living, non-hierarchical network. His sculptures and architectures are also teaching and research units that intervene in their surroundings, explore them and provoke new types of associations. The knowledge that Oliver Kruse gains through his free work, he brings into social contexts, u. a. about his apprenticeship and the 20 years of helping shape the island and rocket station Hombroich .

biography

Kruse has realized several solo exhibitions and numerous installations in public spaces in Europe, Asia and the USA. He has u. a. at the Architecture Biennale, Venice (1996 and 2004), at the Omi International Arts in New York (2008, 2010, 2015), on the occasion of the St. Moritz Art Masters in Switzerland (2012), at the Poznań Biennale in Poland (2012) and the Yale School of Architecture (2013).

Kruse has been a professor of design at the Peter Behrens School of Arts in Düsseldorf since 2005 . In 2015 he was visiting professor at the Chanin School of Architecture at Cooper Union in New York. He holds a Masters of Arts in Fine Arts from Chelsea College of Art , London and a postgraduate degree in Art History from the Royal Society of Arts , London. His teachers were u. a. Erwin Heerich and Richard Deacon .

Today he lives and works in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Hombroich.

  • 1995: one-man house, Hombroich rocket station. Design and realization of a wooden guest house in collaboration with K. Nishikawa

  • 1999: Kinder Insel Hombroich . Concept, design and realization of a day care center
  • 1999: Galerie Wormser , Nuremberg . Concept, design and realization of a showroom in a residential and commercial building in the city center
  • 2003: Hooy Kaye Museum , Brussels . Concept and design for the renovation and interior design of a listed department store from the 17th century, establishment of a museum for Asian art
