Oskar "Ossi" Huber (born July 31, 1954 in Feldkirchen in Carinthia ) is an Austrian singer / songwriter, musician and author.

Life

Ossi Huber visited the Bundeskonvikt in Lienz , where he founded his first band Universe, which mainly played the popular classics of the 1960s. He left boarding school in 1971 after his mother died and he was taking care of the widowed father.

In 1983 Huber founded the Bluesbreakers together with Reinhold Habernig . The band undertook numerous concert tours abroad, for example Turkey 1986 ( Bursa ), China 1989 (two concerts each in Beijing , Tianjin and Guilin ) and 1996 ( Haikou - Hainan Island , Hong Kong ), Morocco 1994 together with Andy Lee Lang and Big Jay McNeely ( Marrakech , Fès , Rabat , Meknes and Casablanca ), USA 1999 ( Memphis , Natchez and New Orleans ), Spain ( Tarragona ) and Slovakia ( Bratislava ).

With the title Yellow Moon (1990) the Bluesbreakers ranked number 15 in the Austrian music charts, number 1 in the Austroparade of Ö3 , and number 30 with the accompanying album Bad News , which was released in the same year.

In 1992 he founded the sixties cover band The Gang. The band was among others in Brussels, Sestriere and Vail (Colorado-USA) for the cross-border Carinthian Olympic application "senza confini" (with Slovenia and Veneto ).

In 1995 the Sterz group was founded, in which Ossi Huber played with Dieter Themel , Jörg Frießnegg and Claudio Ghidini, among others . Musically, it was a crossover of folk music , Carinthian song , rock and blues , which is subsumed under New Folk Music . The band also played in Mpumalanga in South Africa and released the live album Mpumalanga - Live in South Africa . A total of three CDs were released, in addition to the live album Höh (1996) and Es is wia 's is (1998). Together with Jörg Frießnegg, Huber arranged a modern version of the well-known Carinthian song Is schon still uman See and thus entered a competition for new folk music . Winning the competition there was followed in Carinthia by a fundamental discussion about modern arrangements of original choral songs.

In 2002 he founded the dialect project Huaba with Klaus Tschaitschmann . Initially, two cookbooks including a CD with music, texts and recipes with illustrations by Wilfried Steurer were published . The two volumes Karntna Kuchlklong and Karntna Kuchlklong 2 were reissued in 2008. The dialect expression (in particular the Gurktaler -, later also the southern Carinthian dialect ) came to the fore and at the latest since the publication of the poetry book Zuggarpliapleaggarzle , Ossi Huber has been compared more and more with the dialect legend Willi Rudnigger. In 2003 he got out of the Bluesbreakers.

The first Huaba CD Kärntner Schmäh was released in 2003, followed by the second A G'lachta in 2005 and the third Tiaf in 2010 . In 2011 the duo released a fourth album called Südsaitig . In the song contained therein, Wir san alle only Menschen , minority problems and the "place-name sign" issue are addressed. The song climbed in the local Carinthian hit parade like De Feiawehr , I go to the lake , Der Riese and Topfnstrudl on number 1.

In March 2010, Ossi Huber founded the Nu-Folk formation Humus . The first CD was already released in October 2010 ( It is colder became ). Only 5 minutes followed in March 2012. The band was particularly popular on Radio Tirol and received a lot of airplay there . In August 2013 Humus played a concert in Munich with the British pop / rock band Smokie . The third album, Hinhör'n , was released in spring 2014 and reached number 39 in the Austrian charts. His song A stille Kraft , which landed at number 1 in the annual charts of Radio Carinthia, was also successful . Immediately after the release of the fourth CD entitled Es is wie's is , Ossi Huber and the internationally known drummer Peter Gröning parted ways with the band. The reason was discrepancies that could no longer be resolved and mutually different musical understandings with the two other band members.

In 2011 Huber had a heart attack while singing the song Nur Five Minutes , which ended his professional career in addition to music and also brought his musical career to a standstill for the time being. In April 2012, Huber's next book, an autobiography with a spiritual background, titled (M) A Path to Inner Peace ... was published, based on his experiences before and after the heart attack.

In January 2016 Huber started with the new Ossi Huber & Band named after him. In addition to Huber and Gröning, Humus founding member and name finder Dragan Janjuz and guitarist and Amadeus prize winner Didi Baumgartner (formerly Peter Cornelius , currently Alkbottle ) are also in the band. The band's first album was released in autumn 2016. ("do again")
