Otto von Stössel
Johann Otto Sigismund von Stössel (born January 29, 1775 in Kackau, Züllichau-Schwiebus district , † August 19, 1840 in Neumarkt in Silesia ) was a Prussian major general and most recently the commander of the 12th Cavalry Brigade .
Life
origin
His parents were Christoph Sigismund Ludwig von Stössel (born January 27, 1743 - † June 24, 1814) and his wife Henriette Johanna Amalia, born von Stössel (* July 4, 1745 - † November 10, 1804). His father was an imperial captain a. D. and Mr. on Rackai, Klippendorf and Friedrichstabor.
Military career
Stössel came in August 1787 as a Junker in the Hussar Regiment "von der Schulenburg" of the Prussian Army . There he became a cornet on December 25, 1791 and second lieutenant on September 8, 1793 . In 1793/94 he fought in the First Coalition War in the battles near Kaiserslautern and Moorlautern , as well as near Grünstadt , Schwalm, Saarbrücken , Frankenthal , Hasnon, Ensheim and the siege of Valenciennes. He was wounded in the battle near Kreuznach and on March 1, 1794, Stössel received the order Pour le Mérite for Grünstadt .
On December 1, 1803 he was promoted to lieutenant prime minister. As such, Stössel took part in the Fourth Coalition War. He fought in the battle of Auerstedt , the battle near Strehlen, and in the defense of Glatz and Silberberg. In Silberberg he was wounded. For his bravery at Silberberg, he was promoted directly to major on February 10, 1807 , and joined the corps of Prince von Ples as squadron chief . On February 18, Stössel became head of the Guard Uhlan squadrons, and on July 25, 1809, he was granted a major patent . In the run-up to the Wars of Liberation , on April 1, 1813, he became the commander of the Light Guard Cavalry Regiment, but on May 19, 1813, he became the commander of the 2nd Leib-Hussar Regiment . During the war he fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen , on the Katzbach , Leipzig , Laon , Paris and the battles near Freyburg and the transition near Wartenburg . For Katzbach, Stössel was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class, for Paris with the Cross 1st Class and at Freyburg with the Russian Order of St. George IV Class. In addition, on April 24, 1814, he received permission to wear the Order of the Sword . In the time he was on 28 December 1813 Lieutenant Colonel and on April 9, 1814 Colonel promoted.
After the war, Stössel received the Order of the Red Eagle III on September 3, 1817 . Class. On September 19, 1818 he was promoted to major general, retired from the 2nd Hussar Regiment and was placed at the disposal of the king. On October 26, 1818, he was appointed commander of the 12th Cavalry Brigade. On June 13, 1825, he was made inactive. Stössel died on August 19, 1840 in Neumarkt in Silesia.
As early as 1804, Blücher reported about Stössel: "Very good and of the best management, applied for the service and is of the best character".
family
Ram married on April 30, 1815 in the Berlin garrison church Countess Friederike Wilhelmine Sophie Detlevine von Moltke August, a daughter of the Prussian gendarme Master Count Friedrich Detlev von Moltke (born 28 1750 († February 2, 1859 * Feb. 1, 1782); † September 2, 1825). The couple had the following children:

- Klementine Luise Friederike (* March 10, 1817 - March 5, 1885) ∞ NN Gaertner († December 4, 1875 in Bernau), superintendent and pastor in Beyersdorf
