Johann Bernhard Otto von Stuckrad (born August 2, 1803 in Kruklanken , † January 23, 1888 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and commandant of the Thorn Fortress .

Life

origin

Otto was a son of the Prussian Lieutenant General Leopold von Stuckrad and his wife Charlotte, née von Drigalski (1785-1854). The two younger brothers Leonhard (1808–1885) and Alexander (1814–1895) became Prussian lieutenant general.

Military career

Stuckrad joined the 1st Infantry Regiment (East Prussian) of the Prussian Army at the end of August 1817 and was promoted to Second Lieutenant by the end of May 1821 . In 1825/28 he was sent to the General War School for further training . In 1830 Stuckrad became a regimental adjutant and rose in this position to prime lieutenant at the end of November 1837 . On March 30, 1840 he was commanded as adjutant of the 2nd Infantry Brigade and then from September 16, 1842 in the same capacity with the 2nd Division in Danzig . Left in this position, Stuckrad was aggregated as a captain of the 4th Infantry Regiment on March 30, 1844 . With his appointment as company commander , he served in this regiment from September 18, 1844, and on November 22, 1849, he was major in command of the 1st Battalion in the 19th Landwehr Regiment in Polish Lissa . This was followed from June 14, 1854 to May 15, 1857 as commander of the 3rd Jäger Battalion in Lübben . In the meantime, he rose to lieutenant colonel in mid-July 1855 and was then battalion commander in the 8th Infantry Regiment (called Leib-Infanterie-Regiment) . Under position à la suite of this association he was appointed commandant of Magdeburg on June 3, 1858 and promoted to colonel in November 1858 . On May 13, 1861, he was transferred to Thorn as commandant. In this position, Stuckrad was given the character of major general on October 18, 1861 on the occasion of the coronation of Wilhelm I as King of Prussia . He was also awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III in 1863 . Class with ribbon, awarded the Order of St. Stanislaus 1st Class in 1864 and the Order of the Crown, 2nd Class in January 1869 . On June 13, 1869, Stuckrad was put up for disposal with the statutory pension .

family

Stuckrad married on January 3, 1829 in Berlin with Antonie von Lüdicke (1809-1884). The marriage had twelve children. Only the daughter Klara (1832–1869) and the son Otto Eugen (1835–1876), Prussian major, reached adulthood .
