Palanan ( Filipino : Bayan ng Palanan ) is a Filipino municipality in the province of Isabela , Administrative Region II, Cagayan Valley. It has 17,260 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who lived in 17 barangays . It is classified as a first income class community in the Philippines and as partially urbanized .
Palanan is located in the east of the province, on the coast of the Philippine Sea . The municipality is located in the Sierra Madre massif . It is 454 km north of Manila and can be reached via the Marhalika Highway , via Ilagan. Your neighboring communities are Ilagan City in the north, San Mariano in the west and in the south.
The last chapter of the Philippine-American War took place in Palanan when General Emilio Aguinaldo surrendered to the American invasion forces on March 23, 1901. Palanan is also located in the Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park ; this has been on the list of proposals for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2006 . The endemic frog species Platymantis taylori was discovered in the municipality.
