San Mariano ( Filipino : Bayan ng San Mariano ) is a Filipino municipality in the province of Isabela , Administrative Region II, Cagayan Valley. It has 17,260 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who lived in 36 barangays . It is classified as a first income class community in the Philippines and as partially urbanized .
San Mariano is located in the southeast of the province, the community center is in the valley of the Cagayan and the Ilagan River flows through the community. The municipality extends to the coast of the Philippine Sea . The municipality is located in the Sierra Madre massif . It is 454 km north of Manila and can be reached via the Marhalika Highway , via Naguilian . Their neighboring communities are Ilagan City and Palanan in the north, Benito Soliven in the west, San Guillermo in the southwest and Dinapigue in the south.
San Mariano is partly located in the Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park , which has been on the list of proposals for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2006 .
