Paul Gilbert (judge)
Paul Gilbert (born January 22, 1859 in Dresden , † February 4, 1925 in Schneeberg ) was a German judge , local politician , local researcher and club and association functionary.
Life
Gilbert attended a private school in Dresden and entered the Vitzthum Gymnasium in Dresden in 1870 . From 1877 he devoted himself to studying law in Leipzig . After obtaining his doctorate he was a trainee lawyer in Dresden and Chemnitz and then an assessor in Grimma and Dresden. In Dresden he was appointed district judge on November 1, 1888 , in between he was assistant judge in the Ministry of Justice . On October 1, 1890, he was appointed to Colditz as a magistrate . On November 1, 1897, he transferred to the district court in Schneeberg, where he worked as a senior magistrate and senior judicial officer until he retired on March 31, 1924. After that he lived in Hartenstein .
Gilbert belonged to the parish council of Schneeberg and was active there in the diocesan committee of the church district and in the board of the district association for internal mission. He was a co-founder and member of the Association for the Maintenance of the Bethlehemstift Zwönitztal, founded in 1909. In 1911 the church district elected him as a secular representative in the regional synod , to which he belonged until his death and in which he held the position of secretary for several years.
In Schneeberg he was a city councilor and representative of the mayor .
Gilbert was the second chairman of the Schneeberg branch of the Erzgebirgsverein . On October 1, 1910, he was elected chairman of the Erzgebirgsverein at the general assembly in Chemnitz. He held the chair until his death in 1925. During its time, the club grew from just over 90 branch clubs with 13,000 members to 134 branch clubs with almost 30,000 members. In 1922 he was made an honorary member of the association.
From 1916 to 1920 Gilbert was the managing director of the central committee and thus the chairman of the Association of German Mountain and Hiking Clubs .
Gilbert died on February 4, 1925 as a result of a stroke in Schneeberg. He was buried in the local cemetery.
Paul Gilbert was the son of the Protestant theologian Robert Otto Gilbert . From 1888 he was married to Elisabeth, born Kleinpaul, the marriage had three daughters and three sons.
