Pedro Chirivella Burgos (born May 23, 1997 in Valencia ) is a Spanish football player . The defensive midfielder was trained at Valencia CF and has been under contract with Nantes FC since July 2020 .
Athletic career
Chirivella joined the youth department of his home club Valencia CF at the age of seven. There he went through the age groups up to the U-16 selection and in the 2012/13 season he was consistently captain of the Spanish U-16 national team. He was considered one of the greatest talents in Spanish football and in the so-called "sixth position" in defensive midfield, he was characterized by a good passing game and the ability "to read a game very well". Shortly after his 16th birthday in the summer of 2013, he moved to England to join the Liverpool FC youth academy. He continued his football training in Liverpool and despite struggling with injuries in the 2014/15 season, he made seven appearances in the Liverpool U-21s in the domestic league (plus five other probation opportunities in the UEFA Youth League ).
Shortly after the start of the 2015/16 season, he was in the professional squad for the away game in the Europa League against Girondins Bordeaux (1: 1) and after the sudden injury of Kolo Touré he used the opportunity to make a solid performance in midfield after his substitution at the side of the same age Jordan Rossiter . This was followed by the starting line-up debut on February 9, 2016 in the FA Cup against West Ham United (1: 2) and the debut in the Premier League against Swansea City (1: 3) almost three months later.
Since the sporting breakthrough in Liverpool did not materialize from now on, loan engagements followed in the Netherlands with the Go Ahead Eagles (first half of 2017) as well as with Willem II Tilburg in the 2017/18 season and from the end of January 2019 in Spain with Extremadura UD . In the Spanish second division, Chirivella should not be used in the first team, as the necessary documents for eligibility to play had not been submitted on time.
Chirivella returned to Liverpool for the 2019/20 season and was mainly part of the U23 squad. He completed 12 games in the U23 Premier League, in which he scored one goal. For the professional team, Chirivella was used 3 times in the FA Cup and League Cup .
For the 2020/21 season, Chirivella moved to the French first division club FC Nantes , with whom he signed a contract until June 30, 2023.
