Pessna (noble family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The lords of Pessna (also of Pezen , Peczen , Peschen , de Pessene , Plesna ) were a Saxon noble family. Their ancestral home was Pezne, now Großpösna . Documentary evidence of this sex can be found for the period around 1190 to 1638. In the majority of the regests , their members appear as witnesses. For the period from 1280 to 1534 there are regestas for Silesia and Moravia , in which allodies of the sex are charged, exempted from taxes or sold.

Surname

The gender name Pesna, Pesne is of Slavic origin. Pesna therefore means: place on sandy ground . From the 7th to the 9th century, Leipzig and its surrounding area were settled by Slavic tribes. Only around 1300 did the use of the Sorbian language in this area fade .

history

The lords or counts of Pessna can be proven by documentary records over a period of 165 years, from 1190 to 1355. A Wulferus de Pesse was first mentioned in 1190 at the manor house in Pezne in Saxony . Members of this family have been in the 13th century as schöffenbarfrei considered and in various documents (among the nobles nobiles Layci listed) witnesses; they were demonstrably ahead of nobles in rank. They belonged to the vassal families of the margraves of Meissen and the landgraves of Thuringia. In documents from the Margraviate of Meißen and the Landgraves of Thuringia , no. 140/1209 Wulferrus de Pezne named as a witness. The burgraves Johannes and Walther von Giebichenstein transfer their castle in Zpurnc to Bishop Engelhard von Naumburg . In documents from the period from 1211 to 1216 Hermanno de Pecenich appeared as a witness for Landgrave Hermann von Thuringia , and in 1218 Uvolferus de Pesne as a witness for Margrave Dietrich . In 1220 he confirmed ownership of the Buch monastery , with Wolfinus de Cice and Wolfherus frater eus de Pesne appearing as witnesses.

Upper Lusatia: Around 1530 the v. Peschen from Franz v. Schreibersdorf shares in the village of Dreiweibern (north of Lohsa) and in Königswarthe. In 1540 the brothers v. Peschen to Dreiweibern from Franz v. Schreibersdorf two farmers to Kolpen. In 1539 Jacob v. Peschen a farmer to three women and half a Kretscham to Lohsa. In 1546 Haug v. Peschen zu Königswarthe three estates in fiefs of three women. In 1558 Friedrich v. Peschen added two shares in Königswarthe from Valentin Hennigke. In 1565, when all fiefdoms were renewed by Emperor Max II, only Jacob v. Peschen mentioned on Königswarthe. His sons, probably Hans u. Friedrich v. Peschen, are enfeoffed with this property after his death in 1567. Friedrich v. Peschen died around 1597. October 5, 1628; Here the Rittmeister Siegismund von Peschen and Trochau appears. He buys the town of Reichenbach / OL with Oberdorf and Oelisch from Hans Georg von Warnsdorf for 17,000 thalers and 100 thalers of key money. Peschen dies around 1637. His heirs sell the allodies on January 21, 1638 to Mr. Gottfried von Sander.

With the knight Dietrich ( Theodoricus ) de Pesna, a representative of the Pessna appeared for the first time in Silesian documents in 1287. Also in 1289, 1291 and 1292, here for Heinrich VI. , Duke of Wroclaw . In document no. 2185 Dietrich von Pessna is referred to as castellan of "Cosuchow", later Freystadt , which at that time belonged to the Duchy of Glogau . According to a document from 1295, the Counts of Pessna owned the allodies Nieder-Siegersdorf , Windisch-Bohrau , Döhringau and Netschütz there . The Breslau bishop Johann III. Romka confirmed donations from these goods to church institutions. In 1298 two sons of Dietrich, Herrmann and Johann called Peschan appeared in a deed of gift for the Schweidnitz Duke Bolko I (Reg. 2527).

In the year 1300, knight Theodoricus de Pesno, castellan in Freystadt, donated an altar to the parish church of St. Mary there for his, his ancestors and his wife's salvation. Jenschin (Johann?) V. Peschen attests to 1302 (Reg. 2709). In 1304 Dietrich von Pesna stood as a witness for the Glogau Duke Heinrich III. on.

Knight Theodoricus ( Dietrich ) de Pesna, castellan of Freystadt, died in February of the year 1311. In a corresponding document of the city council of February 23rd of the year. J. is informed of his death and it is documented that his sons Heinrich and brother have donated a daily votive mass for him. Around 1323 Peter Unglowbe , patrician of Sagan , acquired parts of the allodies from one of the sons, ( presumably Johann ) of the knight and burgrave of Freystadt, Dietrich von Pesna. This purchase is therefore to be placed in this period, since with the date of September 2, 1323 Duke Heinrich VI. his faithful Johann v. Plesna, son of Dietrich, among others also for Sighardisdorf ( Siegersdorf ) exempted from all taxes and all burdens for all future. Thus, the acquisition of Nieder-Siegersdorf by Peter Unglowbe can be set to the period around or after 1323. Jenichin v. Peschen ( Pessna ), sold the Scholtisei in Gerhardi villa with the right of patronage to Abbot Heinrich II. Camerarius von Grüssau in 1324 . In 1321 and 1333 Jenichin ( Johann? ) Appeared again as a witness. According to a document from 1349, Peter Unglowbe also donated income from these allodies to the hospital of the Holy Spirit in Freystadt for the salvation of his and his family's souls. The hospital, which existed next to the Heilig-Geist-Kirche from 1273, was built around 1280 and given to the Teutonic Order . In a document dated July 11, 1405, the Freistadt citizen Johann Frankinfurt is noted in the succession of the unbelief as the owner for Nieder-Seghardisdorf ( Nieder-Siegersdorf ) and Reichenau . With this certificate he passed the aforementioned allodies on to Philipp Unrwen ( Unruh ), son of Jakob Unrw ( Unruh ).

Spread in Moravia

Around 1400 the Pessna can also be found in the margraviate of Moravia . Stibor von Pecze acquired a farm from Jaroslaw von Senitz in the village of Weischowitz, Olmütz district , and sold it in 1412 to Almusch von Kunkowitz. Around 1490 Niklas Pecze von Tuleschitz was the owner of the Tuleschitz and Kniebnitz estates . Tuleschitz went to von Rechenberg in 1520 . Kniebnitz in 1500 to Mr. Johann Stietinsky von Kostnik. Niklas von Pecze was also the owner of Gut Niklowitz until 1534. Niklas Szilaud von Palowitz then followed as owner.
