Peter Kathan (born January 11, 1982 in Bad Tölz ) is a former German professional ice hockey defender who is currently undergoing retraining, but is under contract with TEV Miesbach in the Bayern League . He is the son of the national coach of the German women's ice hockey team Peter Kathan senior . His brother Klaus Kathan is also a hockey player.
Career
Peter Kathan began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth field of EC Bad Tölz , for whose professional team he made his debut in the 2nd Bundesliga in the 1999/00 season . The defender then spent a season in the Oberliga Süd at EHC Bad Aibling before returning to EC Bad Tölz for another three years. During this period he ran in the 2001/02 season for the Munich Barons for the first time in the German Ice Hockey League . In his only appearance in the top German division so far, the former junior national player received two penalty minutes.
From 2004 to 2007 Kathan was under contract with ETC Crimmitschau , with whom he achieved immediate promotion from the league to the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2005/06 season after relegating to the previous year. After playing for Crimmitschau's league rivals SC Bietigheim-Bissingen in the 2007/08 season, he moved to Schwenninger Wild Wings in summer 2008 , for whom he played until 2011. After a one-year stint at Starbulls Rosenheim , Kathan moved to league competitor SC Riessersee in May 2012 and signed a contract there for two years.
In March 2014, he announced that he would end his career at the end of the 2013/14 season and complete retraining as a process mechanic. Despite this, Kathan still plays in the third-class Oberliga Süd for TEV Miesbach .
International
For Germany , Kathan took part in the U20 Junior World Championship of Division I in 2002 , in which he and his team achieved first place and thus promotion to the top division.
