Peter van Merksteijn junior (born September 1, 1982 in Hengelo ) is a Dutch rally driver . In the 2011 season he took part in ten races of the World Rally Championship .
Career
Peter van Merksteijn jr. began his rally career in 2006 with a Renault Mégane in national competitions. The following year he started with the support of his father's team, Peter van Merksteijn sr. , who is also a racing driver and won the LMP2 class at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2008 , with a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX in the Dutch rally championship. He won the Group N championship that year .
In the same year he started with the same vehicle for the first time in a round of the World Rally Championship in Germany , where he finished 70th overall.
From the Rally of Portugal season in 2011 he starts in the Van Merksteijn Motorsport team his father in a Citroën DS3 WRC in ten of thirteen rounds of the World Rally Championship. At the 2011 Rally Germany he scored his first two championship points with a ninth place overall.
On September 19, 2011 he won the Hellendoorn Rally belonging to the Dutch rally championship . Since World Rally Cars of the older specification are still permitted in this series , Van Merksteijn competed there in a Citroën C4 WRC against, among others, the Ford Focus WRC, Subaru Impreza WRCs, Mitsubishi Lancer WRC.
