Parish church "Christ the Risen" Hinterschmiding

The parish church in Hinterschmiding in the Freyung-Grafenau district in Lower Bavaria , built between 1969 and 1971, is consecrated to Christ the Risen .

history

Hinterschmiding belonged to the parish Freyung until 1937 . In the center of the village there was a small chapel, the origin of which goes back to the founding of the village in the middle of the 16th century. The story began in 1927 with a "barn mission". A people's mission took place in the mayor's barn from May 29th to June 5th . After the mission days it was decided to build a church; construction began in the same year. On August 8, 1928, the pastor of Freyung, clergyman Seraph Nöpl consecrated the school chapel to St. Bishop Altmann von Passau . On working days a priest came from Freyung and held a service, on Sunday the Schmidinger had to come to Freyung for a service. On May 1, 1937 Hinterschmiding became a branch and received its own priest; Expositus Heinrich Immerfall. On March 3, 1964 the expositur was raised to the parish ; the first pastor was Herbert Keßler.

Church building

On April 12, 1964, Pastor Herbert Keßler and Mayor Josef Stadler founded the church building association and commissioned architect Hans Beckers , government master builder in Regensburg, with the planning. Construction began in the spring of 1969; the local construction management was carried out by architect Josef Lorenz from Regensburg. The foundation stone was laid on July 27, 1969.

The church building, in the form of a ciborium , which includes God and his community, as a place of reflection and brotherhood . The hexagon of the church with the large roof areas, 21 m high with a diameter of 30 m, reflects the topography of the landscape ( Bavarian Forest ). The 40 m high tower, free-standing campanile , also hexagonal and high spire, connects the church with the new mortuary and funeral hall of the cemetery built in 1948 near the school chapel . The school chapel on the site of the church tower and the outbuilding was demolished. Outside exposed concrete pillars with white plastered intermediate fields, all-round window band, the steep tent roof covered with gray Eternit shingles. Inside the reinforced concrete members with white brick masonry . The star-like folded wooden ceiling, rising up to 17 m, shields the church. The pews are arranged in a quarter circle and the surrounding ribbon of windows in bright colors is aligned with the sanctuary.

Furnishing

The furnishings in the sanctuary are exclusively works of art by the sculptor Leopold Hafner from Aicha vorm Wald . To the left of the altar block are the ambo, the horns at the corners symbolize the four Gospels from which the priest proclaims the Good News , and the sediles . To the right of it the baptismal font and in a light-flooded bay window the tabernacle . The tabernacle case is surrounded by a crown of thorns. Just as God appeared to Moses in the burning bush, so God is present to us in the tabernacle.

The cross behind the altar shows an almost life-size, wood-carved Christ the Risen One, who has already suffered, who is already assigned to the other world, the glory of the Father; no crown of thorns, no wounds, no nails. To the right and left of the cross are the fourteen stations of the cross.

The image of the Virgin Mary from Saloniki, which was brought to Germany during the turmoil of the Second World War, is a particular treasure . It was given to the parish of Hinterschmiding as a gift. Sculptor Leopold Hafner created a worthy bronze frame around this miraculous image, which calls on people to pray for peace and justice in the world.

The surrounding ribbon of windows is the work of the artist Erich Horndasch from Stammham . He calls it the resurrection: The new Jerusalem appears above the altar; in the light where the beams diverge. Christ who is God from God and light from light. Another symbol of Christ is the mystical rose, the flower from which Christ broke out.

Left: The bright green of hope at the sources of life. “In that day living water will go out from Jerusalem” (Zach 14: 8). The living water (divine life and grace) proceeds from the risen One. The dark, blue and purple shadows that obscure the light in some places indicate the passion of Christ and the suffering in the world.

Right side: Christian life has an Easter character, ie we have real participation in the life of the risen One. But this participation is hidden like the kernel in a fruit. Fire signs and flames - symbols of grace - sink into our life of poverty as an undeserved gift.

On October 3, 1971, Bishop Antonius Hofmann from Passau consecrated the new parish church of Hinterschmiding “Christ the Risen” with a festive pontifical service .
