The Roman Catholic parish church in Staatz ( patronage : St. Martin ), located in the district of Kautendorf at the foot of the Staatzer cliff , is a neo-Romanesque building which, like the rectory to the south of it, is a listed building. The Staatz parish belongs to the Laa-Gaubitsch deanery in the Archdiocese of Vienna .

history

The church was built on the site of an older church according to plans by the architect Viktor Siedek and was consecrated in 1907. A parish Staatz existed prior to 1100. In 1766, it is as provost parish called.

Exterior

The neo-Romanesque church, built in 1906/07, consists of a nave with a retracted, polygonal choir and a north tower. The facade is richly structured. The western gable facade has a round arch frieze and a gabled portal porch with columns, a window rosette and two biforic windows above. The slim, four-story tower with an eastern stair tower has a round arch frieze, round arch sound windows and a tent roof behind trapezoidal gables . South of the choir is a two-story extension.

Several tombstones can be seen at the church : a red marble tombstone with an inscription and the Breiner coat of arms , dated 1589 and 1631; Erhard Schilch with cross and shield, 1450; a red marble tombstone, marked 1486.

Interior

The transverse barrel of the four-bay long house rests with belt arches on half-columns with bases and leaf capitals . The organ loft rises on pillars to the west . Between the nave and the choir area there is a drawn-in, round-arched triumphal arch . The conical apse has a cornice . There are decorative paintings on the vaults and side walls. The wall painting in the nave shows the legendary donation of the coat by Martin von Tours . Christ is depicted in the choir with saints . The figural stained glass on the windows dates from the time the church was built.

Furnishing

The neo-Gothic high altar consists of a structure with carved figures of Saints Martin, Peter and Paul . The neo-Gothic side altars, a monumental crucifix and the rest of the furnishings were made in the 20th century. The organ is a work by Franz Capek from 1907.

A baroque picture of the church patron Martin in the sacristy is marked 1728. Another picture, dating from the second half of the 18th century, shows Jesus being deposed from the cross and the adoration of the Magi . Other furnishings include baroque carved figures of God the Father and Son .

The bells of the church were cast by Balthasar Heroldt in 1674 and 1675 .
