The area of the municipal area of 18.1 km² covers a section of the Freiburg Pre-Alps. The northernmost part of the municipality is occupied by the Plasselb Mulde between the Ärgera in the west and the Sense Valley in the east. In this northern part of the municipality, the western border is formed by the Muelersbach , a left tributary of the Ärgera.

To the south, the municipality extends into the heavily reliefed upper catchment area of the Ärgera in the foothills of the Alps and divides into two strips. There are extensive forests and pastures here. The south-western section comprises the left slope of the Ärgera valley in the so-called Plasselbschlund , with the western border running on the mountain ridge from Klein-Käseberg Petit Cousimbert ( 1530  m above sea level ) to Chrüzflue and Muschenegg ( 1263  m above sea level ). The south-eastern section extends on the eastern slope of the Höllbach valley , extends into the Philiponerwald in the south and into the catchment area of the Schwarzsee and the Fuchs Schwyberg . Here the eastern border runs on the ridge of the Schwyberg ; on the Great Schwyberg is 1645  m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Plasselb. The Kapberg, located between Ärgera and Höllbach, belongs to the municipality of Val-de-Charmey . history

The first written mention of the place took place in 1236 under the name plana silva (derived from Latin meaning flat forest ). The names Plannaseyva (1324), Blanselp (1364), and for the first time Plasselb (1445) and Plannasewa (1472) appeared later .

1476 Murtenschlacht, with a "rice company" of 8 equipped men,.

In the Middle Ages , the Plasselb fief belonged to Rudolph von Ecublens, who sold it to the Bishop of Lausanne in 1291. In the following period there were numerous changes of ownership, including the gentlemen of Corbières , von Englisberg and the Velga family. Plasselb came under the rule of Freiburg through purchase in 1486 and was assigned to the Old Landscape (Burgpanner). After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), the village belonged to the Freiburg district during the Helvetic and the following period, from 1831 to the German district of Freiburg, before it was incorporated into the newly created Sense district in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution.

With effect from January 1, 1971, Neuhaus was incorporated into Plasselb.

At the end of winter 1994, the slope on the eastern flank of the Höllbach valley below the Schwyberg began to move after a period of very heavy rainfall for a long time. This landslide with various debris flows finally led to the complete destruction of the Falli-Hölli holiday home area with around 30 houses.

In terms of church, Plasselb initially belonged to the parish of Rechthalten, from 1519 to the parish of Plaffeien, and after various disputes about the worship service it was raised to an independent parish in 1720.
