La Habana is a former province in northwest Cuba , which is located around the Cuban capital of the same name . The province was administered from the capital, but the capital itself formed an independent province as Ciudad de La Habana . As part of an administrative reform, the province was dissolved at the end of 2010. The two new provinces Artemisa and Mayabeque emerged on their territory . The Ciudad de La Habana got the name of the dissolved province, La Habana . La Habana was only created in 1975 in the course of the political and administrative reorganization of Cuba and covered an area of ​​5731 km².
