Pueblo Nuevo is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cordoba in Colombia .

Pueblo Nuevo is located in the east of Córdoba at an altitude of 50 m above sea level. NN , 66 km from Montería . The municipality borders in the north on Ciénaga de Oro and Sahagún , in the east on Ayapel and San Marcos in the department of Sucre , in the south on Buenavista and Planeta Rica and in the west on Planeta Rica and San Carlos .

The municipality of Pueblo Nuevo has 41,684 inhabitants, of which 16,482 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality (as of 2019).

history

At the place of today's Pueblo Nuevo there was originally a crossroads in the area of the municipality of Sahagún . The first house at the crossroads was built around 1907 and the place was called Valparaíso . From 1914 onwards, a small group of settlers began to build what became known as Pueblo Nuevo. Pueblo Nuevo has had parish status since 1957.

economy

The main industry of Pueblo Nuevo is agriculture , especially the cultivation of corn , rice , yams , cassava , sugar cane and bananas . Animal husbandry also plays a certain role.
