San Antero is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cordoba in Colombia .

geography

San Antero is located in the north of Córdoba on the Caribbean , 80 km from Montería . On the Caribbean coast of San Antero is the Bahía de Cispatá bay . The municipality borders the Caribbean to the north, Coveñas in the Sucre department to the east, Purísima and Santa Cruz de Lorica to the south and San Bernardo del Viento to the west .

The municipality of San Antero has 33,662 inhabitants, of which 18,860 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality (as of 2019).

history

Before the arrival of the Spaniards, the indigenous people of the Zenú lived in the area of ​​today's San Antero . The place was founded between 1534 and 1540 by Diego de Corbella, who was part of the Pedro de Heredia expedition.

economy

The main industry of San Bernardo del Viento is agriculture , especially the cultivation of corn , rice , coconuts and tuberous plants . Animal husbandry , fisheries , trade and tourism also play an important role.

Culture

Every year during Holy Week, San Antero hosts a Festival of the Donkey ( Festival del Burro ), during which donkeys are dressed up and races, parades, concerts and dances are organized.
