Tuchin is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cordoba in Colombia .

geography

Tuchín is located in the northeast of Córdoba at an altitude of 106  m above sea level. NN , 127 km from Montería . The municipality borders in the north on San Antonio de Palmito and Sincelejo in the Departamento de Sucre , in the east and south on San Andrés de Sotavento and in the west on Chimá and Momil .

population

The municipality of Tuchín has 41,345 inhabitants, of which 6832 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality (as of 2019).

history

The majority of the population of Tuchín belongs to the Zenú indigenous group. The place was founded in 1826 and named in honor of a historical cacique . Tuchín has had the status of a municipality since 2007. Before that, the place belonged to the municipality of San Andrés de Sotavento .

economy

The main industry in Tuchín is agriculture , especially the cultivation of maize and cassava .
