history
Pope Pius XI founded on November 22, 1924 with the Apostolic Constitution Universalis Ecclesiae, the diocese from the cession of territory of the Archdiocese of Liverpool , to which it was also subordinated as a suffragan .

The diocese of Lancaster includes the county of Cumbria and the northwestern part of the county of Lancashires as well as the Harden Amounderness and Lonsdale.
