Oberschwaben-Allgäu-Weg cycle path

The Oberschwaben-Allgäu cycle path is a total of around 357 kilometers long cycle path in south-eastern Baden-Württemberg in Germany . The long-distance cycle path consists of two routes, the east route Ulm - Tettnang (168 km) and the west route Tettnang - Ulm (189 km). In 2012 the long-distance cycle path was signposted.

Stage 1

Ulm → Ochsenhausen

Ulm ← 14.9 km → Staig ← 13.8 km → Laupheim ← 5.8 km → Mietingen ← 15.9 km → Ochsenhausen

As a former imperial city, Ulm marks the beginning of the exciting circuit on the Oberschwaben-Allgäu-Weg. Past the Ulm Minster and the Ulm City Hall with its lavishly painted facades, you leave the city along the Iller towards the south. The next tour stop is the city of Laupheim after a few kilometers , with its Großlaupheim Castle, which today houses the cultural center and the museum for the history of Christians and Jews. The cycle path continues along the Rottum and you pass quiet villages such as Mietingen, Schönebürg or Reinstetten. The stage destination Ochsenhausen with its sublime monastery is already in sight.

The first part of the route of the first stage leads from Ochsenhausen west to Füramoos . The highlight of the second stage is the Wurzacher Ried , which can be reached after a short descent. Before that, you can admire the view of the Allgäu Alps from the hill . In the nearby spa town of Bad Wurzach , you can relax in the thermal bath or visit the three-winged castle. After a further 18 km, the stage destination Leutkirch comes into view.

The third stage of the Oberschwaben-Allgäu long-distance cycle path leads through the tranquil Allgäu. From the starting point at the train station in Wangen , you leave the city in an easterly direction along the Obere Argen river. The cycle path leads through a varied landscape along orchards and charming villages such as Oberrussenried and Neukirch to the next town of Tettnang . The "Hop City" welcomes its guests with magnificent town houses. In a scenic drive, it goes via Meckenbeuren to Markdorf , the "Pearl of Linzgau".

From Markdorf along the Rotach Valley , the first part of the route leads through Urnau to Wilhelmsdorf . It is worth stopping at Pfrunger-Burgweiler Ried , the second largest contiguous moorland in southwest Germany, with numerous animal and plant species. After a further 20 kilometers you come to Altshausen with the baroque “Holy Sepulcher”. After a short journey you will reach the Kneipp health resort of Aulendorf .

The sixth section of the Oberschwaben-Allgäu-Weg leads through the valley of the Schussen. A first highlight of the route is Bad Schussenried with its Schussenried monastery . And the Oberschwäbisches Museumsdorf Kürnbach in the neighboring village. You leave Bad Schussenried east to Bad Saulgau , which you climb after two ascents. Shortly before Bad Buchau , you roll onto a wooden plank path into the Federsee nature reserve, which is accessible to visitors via nature trails, footbridges and viewing platforms.

The route of the seventh stage leads through northern Upper Swabia. It begins on the cycle path around the Federsee which leads to the tranquil village of Dentingen. From here the path leads directly to the Bussen mountain . Shortly before the summit of the “holy mountain of Upper Swabia”, the bike route turns to the east. In the next village, Oberstadion, it is worth visiting the Oberstadion Nativity Scene Museum . The last part before the stage destination Ehingen leads along the Danube .

Stage 8

Ehingen → Ulm

Ehingen ← 11.8 km → Oberdischingen ← 5.8 km → Erbach ← 7.3 km → Grimmelfingen ← 5.6 km → Ulm

The final stage of the Oberschwaben-Allgäu-Weg leads through the Danube valley towards Ulm . The route leads northwest through Ehingen towards Oberdischingen , where the route joins the Herrengass. Five kilometers further east is the next stop Erbach with its "Erbach Castle". The remaining 13 kilometers of the last stage continue along the Danube . The Ulm Minster and the city of Ulm will soon be the destination of the last stage in sight.
