Rainer Detlef Kraft (born January 8, 1974 in Graefelfing ) is a German chemist and politician ( AfD ). He sits for his party in the 19th German Bundestag . Kraft was one of the first signatories of the Erfurt resolution and belongs to the party-internal, völkisch group Der Flügel , which in January 2019 was classified by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution as a suspected case of right-wing extremist activities.

Life

Rainer Kraft has a doctorate in chemistry . He grew up as the oldest of two children in Munich and attended the Max Planck Gymnasium there. He did his military service in Oberviechtach with the Panzer Grenadier Battalion 122 and in the Pioneer School in Munich . From 1994 he studied chemistry at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, which he graduated with a diploma in 2002. In 2006 he received his doctorate from the Westphalian Wilhelms University under Rainer Pöttgen . His dissertation was on the synthesis, structure and properties of ternary rare earth magnesium compounds .

Before moving into the German Bundestag , Kraft was a qualified chemist at a medium-sized chemical industrial planning company as a project manager in the planning of factories for the production of high-purity silicon . His international projects in the conception, planning and construction of chemical plants have taken Kraft to various countries in Europe, North America and the Near and Far East. Among other things, he was responsible for the planning of a pressure vessel reactor for silicon deposition.

According to his own statements, his international experience in the field of renewable energies is the basis for his political priorities in energy and climate policy .

Kraft is married, has two daughters and lives in Langweid am Lech , Augsburg district .

politics

In June 2013, Kraft joined the AfD. He made it onto the list of candidates of the AfD Bayern for the Bundestag at the second attempt after another party member had renounced. He finally ran for state list position 12 of the AfD Bavaria in the 2017 federal election . Kraft is chairman of the Parliamentary Advisory Council on Sustainable Development , a full member of the Committee on Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and a deputy member of the Committee on Economics and Energy and the Committee on Transport and Digital Infrastructure . He is also active as deputy chairman in the German-Mexican parliamentary group and in the parliamentary circle of friends in Berlin-Taipei .

At the beginning of 2018, Kraft replaced Martin Hebner as state group spokesman within the AfD parliamentary group in the Bundestag . Kraft was the first AfD parliamentarian to take part in a conference of the International Parliamentary Union in Jerusalem on the topics of building a resilient infrastructure, promoting sustainable industrialization and implementing innovations.

Energy and climate policy

Kraft is climate policy spokesman for the AfD. He is a climate change denier and in an interview with the magazine Kontraste denied not only the scientifically proven global warming effect of carbon dioxide , but also generally any existence of a greenhouse effect . He does not know "what effect that should be that CO 2 contributes to warming". After explaining that carbon dioxide was a greenhouse gas, he replied, “That is not correct. There is no greenhouse effect ”and confirmed this statement again when asked. Kraft calls climate change a "heresy" and wants to end the energy transition. He sees the energy transition as a "purely ideologically motivated attack on German industry and mobility".

Species protection

Kraft is committed to protecting native species. German environmental policy "suffers from too much idealism". According to him, introduced alien species have "their habitats elsewhere, so it would not be extinction if they were eliminated". According to his own statements, Kraft is pushing the AfD's setting of issues in addition to migration and saving the euro to ecology .
