The property in the community was divided between the imperial abbey of Fulda , the rule of the Counts of Gleichen , the monasteries Paulinzella and Pforta and the properties of the Marienstift Erfurt. Since the 16th century the cultivation of woad played a major role in the employment of the majority of the population who lived on agriculture. An important beekeeping industry emerged in the 19th century. In addition, there were a large number of handicraft businesses, especially in weaving and stocking knitting. In the year 1727 20 active stools can be proven.

There is evidence of a parish in the village since 1468. A school was first mentioned in 1578. Until 1945 there was only one teacher for all classes. Today the children visit the school center in Berlstedt.
