Rasa Juknevičienė

Rasa Juknevičienė (born Urbonaitė ; first marriage: Rastauskienė ; born January 26, 1958 in Tiltagaliai , Panevėžys district ) is a Lithuanian conservative politician and pediatrician . Under Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius she was Defense Minister from 2008 to 2012 , later Seimas Vice-President and since July 2019 she has been a member of the EP.

education and profession

After graduating from the Panevėžys 10th Middle School from 1965 to 1976 , Rasa Urbonaitė studied at the Kaunas Medical Academy from 1977 to 1983 . She then worked as a pediatrician at the Panevėžys Central Hospital and from 1984 to 1990 at the Pasvalys Hospital .

politics

In 1988 Juknevičienė became a member of the Sąjūdis national movement and council chairman of the Pasvalys local group. She has been a member of the Seimas since 1990 , where she was Deputy Speaker of Parliament from 1999 to 2000. From December 2008 to 2012 Rasa Juknevičienė was the Minister of Defense of Lithuania . From March to November 2018, she was President of the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO and thus the first woman in this office.

family

Rasa Juknevičienė is married to the lawyer Zenonas Juknevičius , a former politician, including the Lithuanian Minister of Justice .
