The Raupenstein between Kolmbach and Winterkasten is 545.3 m above sea level. NHN high mountain of the Odenwald forested in the upper area in the urban area of Lindenfels in the Bergstrasse district in southern Hesse . It has two peaks of almost the same height; the slightly higher northern peak is about 250 m from the southern one.

The Raupenstein is located in the Bergstraße-Odenwald Nature Park in the mountain range that extends from the Neunkircher Höhe ( 605 m ), the highest mountain in the Vorderen Odenwald , about 900 m away , to the south over the Raupenstein to the mountain Das Buch ( 535.3 m ) and beyond the Litzelröder Höhe, located south-southeast of it, with the Bismarckwarte there on Schenkenberg ( 479.6 m ), reaches the core town of Lindenfels . This mountain range separates the valleys of Gersprenz in the east and Lauter in the west. At the east foot of the mountain lies the village of Winterkasten and at the west foot of the village of Kolmbach , both of which belong to the city of Lindenfels.
Natural allocation
The Raupenstein belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Odenwald, Spessart and Südrhön (No. 14) and in the main unit Vorderer Odenwald (145) to the subunit Neunkircher-Höh- Odenwald (145.6).
Traffic and walking
Along the southern flank of the caterpillars stone as achieved Nibelungenstraße known national highway 47 at the beautiful view its peak ( 447 m ) on the way from the mountain road in the west to Gersprenz valley to the east. There are circular hiking trails on the mountain - starting from Kolmbach and Winterkasten. The following hiking trails and bike paths lead past it:
- the 171 km long HW15 (Main-Stromberg-Weg) from Frankfurt to Sternenfels ,
- the 62 km long HW20 from Bensheim to Miltenberg ,
- the 400 km long long- distance hiking trail Hessenweg 4 from Marsberg in the Sauerland to Neckarsteinach and
- the 70 km long Hessian long- distance cycle route R9 from Worms to Obernburg am Main .
