Johan Henrik Deuntzer

The Deuntzer government was formed in Denmark on July 24, 1901 by Johan Henrik Deuntzer from Venstre and replaced the Sehested government . The Deuntzer government was in office until January 14, 1905, when it was replaced by the JC Christensen government.

After winning the Folketing elections on April 3, 1901, Deuntzer formed the first government of the “left” liberal Venstre. The following liberal policies, with the approval of King Christian IX. was perceived as a system change ( system pins) . In 1901 Denmark received a parliamentary system of government , with the result that the king could not appoint a prime minister against the informal will of parliament.

In the elections of June 16, 1903, the government was confirmed and suffered only minor losses. Iceland , which remained with Denmark in 1814, was given an autonomous constitution because of stronger national efforts. In 1904 there was also a referendum that an Icelander should fill the ministerial post for Iceland in Denmark and represent his country externally. The first local minister for Iceland was Hannes Hafstein . The country-wide village school system was also introduced.
