Van Rompuy government

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Belgian Van Rompuy Government , also Van Rompuy I Government, was in office from December 30, 2008 to November 25, 2009. On January 2, 2009, the Chamber of Deputies gave her confidence. The government consisted of 15 ministers (including prime ministers) and seven state secretaries.

This government, led by Herman Van Rompuy (CD&V), consisted of the Flemish (Open VLD) and Francophone Liberals (MR), the Flemish Christian Democrats (CD&V) and the Francophone Center Humanists (cdH) and Socialists (PS).

The Van Rompuy government succeeded the Leterme I government , which fell as a result of the resignation of Prime Minister Yves Leterme (CD&V) and Justice Minister Jo Vandeurzen (CD&V) in connection with the so-called " Fortis affair".

During her tenure, the government experienced several personnel changes and shifts in responsibilities. On July 17, 2009, Foreign Minister Karel de Gucht was designated to represent Belgium in the European Commission ; at the same time, after the regional elections of 2009, which led to a new majority situation and the formation of a new government, especially on the Walloon side, some politicians changed office. The following ministers and state secretaries left the original Van Rompuy government: Karel de Gucht, Marie Arena , Guido De Padt and Julie Fernandez Fernandez ; The following happened: Guy Vanhengel , Yves Leterme , Michel Daerden and Philippe Courard .

Van Rompuy submitted his resignation as Prime Minister on November 25, 2009 after being appointed the first permanent President of the European Council on November 19, 2009 . On the same day, Foreign Minister Yves Leterme was appointed as the new head of government. He formed the successor government Leterme II .
