Midland regional transport

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The regional Mittelland ( RM ) is a former railway company in Switzerland based in Burgdorf in the canton of Bern . The RM had a route length of 154 km and operated in the cantons of Bern , Solothurn and Lucerne . The RM was created in 1997 from the merger of the Emmental-Burgdorf-Thun-Bahn (EBT), the United Huttwil-Bahnen (VHB) and the Solothurn-Münster-Bahn (SMB). The regional Mittelland AG was established in June 2006 with the BLS to the new BLS AG merged , the new company has been operating since June 27 of 2006.

On 6 June 2000 in joined Hüswil one because of an incorrectly placed Soft RBDe 4/4 II - commuter train in a Schotterzug. The accident cost a railroad worker his life. The driver of the shuttle train and three other people were injured. The Hüswil station was only equipped with manual switches without signal-dependent routes . Thus, after the entry signal was opened, the points could still be switched.

GTW 2/6 of the RM

On January 5, 2004, RM spun off the freight transport business into Crossrail AG . This company was sold on January 1, 2006 to the investment company Babcock & Brown (B&B) from Australia, which also held stakes in other companies in the transport sector and was dissolved in 2009.

Key figures

With 581 employees (as of 2002), RM generated 18.3 million Swiss Francs in passenger transport and transported 8.27 million passengers.

The turnover in freight transport was CHF 11.7 million. First and foremost, it was block train traffic for major customers such as Stahl Gerlafingen AG in Gerlafingen , the M-Real paper mill in Biberist and Kronospan AG in Menznau . The single wagon load traffic (EWLV) has been operated entirely by SBB since the timetable change in December 2004. The “Cargodrome Wiler” crane terminal had been in operation since 2003, and UKV shuttles (unaccompanied combined transport) were carried to Duisburg and Domodossola . With a view to the merger with BLS, the Cargodrome and Crossrail AG were sold to the Australian investment company Babcock & Brown at the beginning of 2006 .
