The Rehberg is at a height of 645.9  m above sea level. NHN (usually the height is given as 646 m) after the northern light the second highest elevation of the Ebbegebirge and not to be confused with the 427.7 meter high Rehberg in the Egge Mountains near Bad Driburg - Langeland in East Westphalia .

The mountain is part of the main ridge of the mountain range ( Hohes Ebbe ) in the western Sauerland and is located on the southern edge of the municipality of Herscheid in the Märkisches Kreis ( administrative district Arnsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia ). Just a few hundred meters south, below the hilltop , the urban area of Meinerzhagen begins with the nearby Valbert district . The city boundary to Attendorn in the Olpe district is about the same distance in an easterly direction . To the north, belonging to Herscheid, the valley floor of the Oester extends in a west-east direction , which is called Ebbebach in the upper reaches and is dammed up to the nearby Oestertalsperre , with the hamlets Ebbe , im Ebbe , Daum , Kiesbert and Reblin located here .

The summit of the 662.7 m high Nordhelle is about 2.3 kilometers to the west and the secondary summit , separated from it only by a depression , the Waldberg with an elevation of 638  m above sea level. NHN is only a good kilometer away in the same direction. The Rüenhardt (636 m high) rises even closer to the east and is separated from the Rehberg by a notch of just 20 meters.

The Rehberg, like the entire range of the Ebbe, is centrally located in the Ebbegebirge nature park established in 1964 with an area of ​​777 km².

Four nature reserves have been designated on the southern slope of the mountain or in the immediate vicinity, all of which are located in the urban area of ​​Meinerzhagen. In detail, these are the areas / areas under nature protection : Auf'm Ebbe / Ebbemoore with 667.03 ha , Auf'm Ebbe / Langes Holz with 66.63 ha, Auf'm Ebbe / Steimer Siepen with 12, 08 ha and Auf'm ebb / Wesebach valley / Wesebruch ha with 17.76. They consist mainly of headwaters and the therefrom springing streams with meandering streams , peat and break forests , bogs , worth protecting forest land and from the forestry operations taken out forest areas that serve as buffer zones on the outer edges .
