The Rüenhardt is at a height of 636 m above sea level. NHN the third highest elevation of the Ebbegebirge and the highest mountain in the urban area of Attendorn .

The mountain is part of the main ridge of the mountain range ( Hohes Ebbe ) in the western Sauerland and is located on the eastern edge of the ridge. He takes behind the Nordhelle , whose summit rises about 3.3 km to the west and a height of 663 m above sea level. NHN owns and the 645.9 m high Rehberg , located just under a km to the south-west , which is separated from the Rüenhardt by a notch of only about 20 meters , with a height of 636 m above sea level. NHN took third place in the height comparison of the mountains of the Ebbe Mountains.
The hilltop is in the urban area of Attendorn (with the next districts Lichtringhausen and Neuenhof in the Olpe district ). The southern mountain flank belongs to the town of Meinerzhagen with the nearby Valbert district , the district of Plettenberg begins on the northeast slope with the Himmelmert district and the northwestern mountain slope extends over the municipality of Herscheid with the hamlets Im Ebbe / Ebbetal and Kiesbert . The three last named municipalities are in the Märkisches Kreis . All four places are located in the administrative district of Arnsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia . To the north, belonging to Herscheid and Plettenberg, the valley floor of the Oester extends in a west-east direction , which is called Ebbebach in the upper reaches and is dammed up to the nearby Oestertalsperre .

While on the Nordhelle the same transmission tower of the WDR , next to a communications tower of the Bundeswehr and the publicly accessible observation tower of Robert Kolb Tower with an amateur radio - relay station located and on its neighboring peak, the mountain forest , the telecommunications tower Ebbegebirge is that Rüenhardt is also like the neighboring Rehberg free of any buildings. The only exception, as a single location, is the Ebbe forester's lodge on the eastern slope in the city of Attendorn. Apart from very small open spaces, the mountain and its crest are almost entirely wooded. Conifers , mainly spruce , dominate the tree population here.
Conservation and Tourism
The Rüenhardt, like the entire range of the Ebbe, is centrally located in the Ebbegebirge Nature Park, established in 1964, with an area of 777 km².
On the southern slope of the mountain or in the immediate vicinity, four nature reserves have been designated, which are located in the urban area of Meinerzhagen (the first two) or belong to Attendorn (the latter two). In detail, these are the areas / areas under nature protection : Auf'm Ebbe / Mahlersberg with 3.58 ha , Auf'm Ebbe / Wesebach-Tal / Wesebruch with 17.76 ha, Berndebachtal with 36.08 ha and Source at Rüenhardt with 0.68 ha. These nature reserves exist u. a. from source regions and therefrom springing streams with meandering streams and wetlands , peat - and Bruchwald stock (mainly Erlenbruch- and birch Bruchwald ), bogs , nutrient-poor outdoor and forest areas, worthy of protection and partly ground acidic forest areas and from the forestry use taken out forest areas than at the outer edges Buffer zones as well as networking areas for the individual biotopes serve and show the animal and plant communities ( biocenosis ) that occur here and are worth protecting .
In addition to a number of marked hiking trails that run in the immediate vicinity, the Robert-Kolb-Weg leads as one of the main supra-regional hiking trails of the Sauerland Mountain Association over the main ridge of the Ebbegebirge and also over the flanks (not over the top) of this mountain.
