action

When Kurt visits Anna in Berlin in 1987 , Anna's diary entries from 1937 to 1945 fall into their hands and they think back to their youth in the city during the Second World War . The two of them had met on a ship voyage of the National Socialist community Kraft durch Freude to Norway . Until Kurt was drafted into the Wehrmacht , they were able to spend a few more carefree years together. Since Kurt was not yet professionally secure, they wanted to wait before getting married.

During the Second World War, Kurt was taken prisoner in Canada . He wanted to marry Anna by distance marriage, which she refused, also because she had not heard from him for almost 1 ½ years. Kurt then wrote to Anna's best friend to propose marriage. Anna had meanwhile got involved in an affair with a soldier who had been given home leave for a day.

After the war, they met again in the 1960s and finally in 1987. Kurt Anna again proposed marriage. She replies that she would accept him if this had been her first encounter with him. But because of their common history, she refuses again and Kurt flies back to Canada.
