Nina Reithmayer (born June 8, 1984 in Innsbruck ) is a former Austrian luge athlete . She has been involved in tobogganing since 1992 and was a member of the Austrian national team from 2002 to 2014.
Reithmayer won the gold medal at the Junior World Championships in 2002 and the silver medal in 2004. In 2003 she won the overall ranking in the Junior World Cup. In 2004 she had to temporarily interrupt her career because she suffered from burnout syndrome . She achieved her best placement in the overall World Cup in the 2006/07 season with 4th place. In 2006 she took part in the Olympic Games for the first time and took 8th place. Before that, she came in 5th place at the European Championships. At the European Championships in 2008 she also came in 5th and at the World Championships in 2008 she reached 6th place in the individual competition and the silver medal with the team. In 2010 Reithmayer won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Latvia. At the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver Reithmayer won the silver medal in the single-seater competition. After she won the first of the four races, she only had to admit defeat to the three-time overall World Cup winner Tatjana Hüfner (Germany). She prevailed against the German Natalie Geisenberger in the fight for the silver medal . As part of the Austrian team , she also took part in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi after a serious injury in the summer Olympic preparation season. Here she rode with a specially adapted carbon knee brace, where she took 20th place. On May 12, 2014, she announced her retirement from competitive sports, which she had been involved in for 21 years.
