history

Rietz was first mentioned in 1303 as Retys . The place name comes from the Polish word Recica and means small river . The origin of the name is the Mühlenbach , which rises in Rietz . The owner of the village changed frequently in the course of history. In 1388 Rietz was under the rule of the von Dochow family and from 1419/20 under the rule of the von Thümen family . In 1466 the village was sold to the von Seelen family. The village belonged to him for almost 200 years until it was sold in 1652. Other owners were the von Rindauf family from 1669 to 1729, the von Kötteritz family from 1729 to 1752 and the von Buchholtz family from 1752 to 1872.

In the years 1530 and 1575 there are four parish hooves in Rietz. Until 1530 Rietz was the parish church for Haseloff and from 1530 a daughter church of Haseloff. From 1541 to 1910 the parish Rietz belonged to the superintendent of Belzig and then to 1961 to the superintendent of Niemegk.

The village church in Rietz was built as a stone church in the 14th century . The building was refurbished for the first time in 1858, and further refurbishments took place in 1959 and 1997. In the course of the first renovation, the church tower was also built.

Rietz belonged to the Kingdom of Saxony until 1807 and then came to Prussia . Rietz was there in the administrative district of Potsdam . On July 25, 1952, the community was assigned to the then newly formed Belzig district in the Potsdam district . After reunification , Rietz was in the Belzig district in Brandenburg and joined the Treuenbrietzen office on February 11, 1992 . After the district reform in Brandenburg on December 6, 1993 , the community finally came to the newly formed district of Potsdam-Mittelmark . On December 31, 2002, the Treuenbrietzen office was dissolved and Rietz was incorporated into the city of Treuenbrietzen .
