Feldheim is a district of the town of Treuenbrietzen in Brandenburg and the first and so far only energy self-sufficient town in Germany. Feldheim has already received several awards for its commitment in the field of renewable energies .

In 2011 Feldheim took part in the competition Our village has a future of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Infrastructure. The city of Treuenbrietzen supported Feldheim with official information for the presentation of the key questions and the provision of plans. The land use plan was also included.

geography

Settlement structure

The area of the Feldheim district is 1570 hectares. The districts are laid out as street villages . The development is characterized by agriculture. In the village center, the oldest part of the village, there are many former farms from the four-sided farms typical of Fläming . These are also often still inhabited by several generations. The development outside the old town center consists of individual smaller homesteads and settlement houses. The buildings and stables of the farm are directly adjacent to the outskirts.

geology

The district of Feldheim and Schwabeck is located on a so-called Fläming plateau at an altitude of around 150 meters. Overall, the plateau rises slightly towards the north and north-west. The surface profile of today was decisively shaped by the terminal moraine formations of the Warth stage of the Saale glaciation. Remaining peaks form the relief of this landscape with flat valleys and basins. The deeply furrowed, post-glacial rumblings are particularly striking . An approximately five km wide loess sand drift running in a west-east direction is of particular importance for its use. This layer (0.6 to 0.8 m thick) is located away from the groundwater on a thick sand deposit. Surface water occurs mainly as flowing water in the very south (Zahna). Groundwater can only be found at greater depths of 50 to 80 m. The sporadic, rapidly flowing surface water has led to the formation of the characteristic village ponds and numerous small bodies of water.

history

Local history

Feldheim is first mentioned in a directory of the church villages of the Wittenberg Propstei , while Schwabeck is always referred to as "Filial von Feldheim". The Flämingdörfer Feldheim and Schwabeck were mentioned for the first time in the electoral copial book , a fiefdom of the Saxon elector from 1388 to 1390. In 1436 both villages were appointed electoral official villages.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Schwabeck was incorporated.

The villages of Feldheim and Schwabeck have been part of the town of Treuenbrietzen since the municipal reform in 2001. Feldheim was previously independent with its districts Schwabeck and Schwabeck / Gasthof until 2002. Historically, Feldheim and Schwabeck belonged to the Wittenberg district in Saxony-Anhalt until 1950 and were then incorporated into the newly formed Jüterbog district. Since then, the district of Feldheim / Schwabeck has had a local advisory board consisting of three members, from which the mayor emerges. The local advisory board meetings take place regularly every quarter, residents' assemblies are held as required.

Demographics

Historically, the greatest population density in both towns was registered in the post-war years (from around 1945) due to the influx of refugees from eastern Germany and army units. The building of socialism in the early 1950s meant a change for the large farmers in the area and the result was a mass exodus of the farmers.

Demographic change is also leaving its mark in Feldheim. In the past 20 years, population losses are clearly visible. In 1990 the community of Feldheim had 162 inhabitants, in 2010 there were 128. Schwabeck still had 100 inhabitants in 1990, and in 2010 it was 87. Only residents with a main residence without registration of secondary apartments were taken into account. Long-established citizens mostly stay in their hometown into old age.

The proportion of newborns is significantly lower than it was 20 years ago. Nevertheless, young people stayed and moved in, started families and built new houses. The average age in both villages is around 48 years.

Landowners of international origin also live in Feldheim.

coat of arms

Feldheim and Schwabeck have had their own coat of arms since 1994. The meaning is explained as follows: The double symbolism of the coat of arms indicates that the two villages Feldheim and Schwabeck are united in the municipality. For Feldheim the stylized church stands as a special monument for the place. It is a classical plastered building built in 1829 with a corrugated roof and an octagonal roof turret over the central axis. The village of Schwabeck is represented by a swan, which is traced back to an old village seal that no longer exists.

ecology

Feldheim has developed into an important economic location and a tourist magnet based on renewable energies in the last 20 years. In 2009 the wood chip heating system and the heat distribution center were built. In 2010 Feldheim was recognized as a bioenergy village . The prize money is used for on-site development. The plan is to set up a village's own photovoltaic system for energy generation, which is computer-controlled and aligns itself with the position of the sun. In the foreseeable future, a modern research and education center will be built in Feldheim, in the former Vierseithof restaurant, which is entirely dedicated to the topic of renewable energies. Wind energy plants, a biogas plant and a wood chip power plant generate electricity and heat from regenerative sources, which have been linked to a regional energy supply network via the newly built distribution system and supply Feldheim independently with energy. Feldheim was the first place in the area to have an electric charging station.

economy

Use of wind power in Feldheim

The economic structure in Feldheim is still characterized by agriculture today.

Agricultural cooperative Fläming eG Feldheim

The Agrargenossenschaft Fläming eG Feldheim is the largest local employer. The company currently employs 28 people and two trainees from Feldheim and the surrounding communities. Arable and grassland are cultivated in Feldheim and the surrounding area. Pig production is carried out in Feldheim and milk production in the neighboring village, as well as suckling cows on the grassland. The agricultural cooperative also looks after the new biogas plant from the energy self- sufficient town Feldheim project . Grain, rape , silage maize and sugar millet are grown on the land . The harvested crop is used as feed to supply the livestock and as raw material for the biogas plant and for market production.

On April 1, 1991 the agricultural cooperative Fläming eG Feldheim was founded. This was preceded by a more or less voluntarily organized cooperative cooperation since 1954. The structures in the agricultural production cooperative now had to be adapted to the new legal situation. Although there were many problems such as ailing systems and technology, workforce reduction, after 20 years we can look back on a stable company that continues to strive to keep jobs and training positions on site. Depending on the possibility, the local associations are supported in their work, e.g. B. by providing technology and sponsoring at club parties.

A new field of activity of the agricultural cooperative is the delivery of input materials for the generation of energy and heat, as well as the charging and maintenance of the biogas plant and the heat distribution center as a service. In addition to the new areas of biogas and heat supply, innovative steps have of course also been taken in the traditional primary production directions to arouse young people's interest in agriculture. Mention should be made here of the automatic acceptance system in the milking parlor and the automatic feeder in the calf rearing area, as well as the automatic steering system on tractors through GPS tracking.

Energiequelle GmbH

Energiequelle GmbH has been active in Feldheim since 1997 . From 1997 to 2019, this company built a wind farm with 55 wind turbines with an installed capacity of 74.1 MW in the Feldheim district on the eastern to southern outskirts . Since September 2015, the regional control power plant (RRKW) has been stabilizing the supraregional power grid with an output of 10 MW. The RRKW was developed by Energiequelle GmbH and Enercon GmbH. Energiequelle GmbH operates a biogas plant together with the Agrargenossenschaft Fläming eG. All input materials are produced on site. This eliminates transport costs and the added value remains in the region. The biogas plant generates electricity and heat regardless of the weather.

Three Enercon E-115 wind turbines erected in 2014 in a five-month construction period have a rotor diameter of 115 meters and a hub height of 149 meters, resulting in a total height of 206.5 meters. Their nominal power is 3000 kW. The Enercon E-115 wind turbines in Feldheim replace four Enercon E-40 wind turbines built in 1995 with a hub height of 65 meters, a rotor diameter of 40 meters and a nominal power of 500 kW.

In 2019, three Enercon E-141 EP4s with a hub height of 129 meters, a rotor diameter of 141 meters and a nominal power of 4200 kW were installed.

Feldheim Energie GmbH & Co. KG

Warmth for Feldheim

Energiequelle GmbH, together with the residents and companies of Feldheim, started the energy self-sufficient town Feldheim project, which is so far unique in Germany. This initiative resulted in Feldheim Energie GmbH & Co. KG, in which only landowners from Feldheim are limited partners . The individually connected households are independently supplied with electricity and heat from renewable energies via separate distribution networks. The heat was supplied from the biogas plant from December 2009, while electricity was supplied directly from the nearby wind farm from October 2010. In the course of the construction work of Feldheim Energie GmbH & Co. KG, the telecommunications were modernized at the same time.

Infrastructure

The residents of the districts have about six times a day on weekdays to take the regular bus service to Treuenbrietzen. The school transport is covered by the regular bus service.

In addition to numerous events during the year, the clubs and groups regularly carry out work assignments to maintain and maintain the sports facilities, green areas and rest areas. Thanks to the involvement of the clubs and groups, all residents have the opportunity to be active in their free time and to contribute to village life.

Children 's facilities such as schools, crèches and day-care centers are not available on site. The former kindergarten in Feldheim was closed at the end of 1994. The nearest day care center is in the neighboring town of Marzahna, around 3 km away. Together with the neighboring towns, the citizens of Feldheim are committed to maintaining the daycare center. In particular, the Marzahna day care center is involved in the design of the cultural program at village festivals. Depending on requirements, children can also be accommodated in children's facilities in the city of Treuenbrietzen . The children go to the Treuenbrietzen primary school, later, depending on their wishes, to the Treuenbrietzen grammar school or to the surrounding villages such as Brück or Jüterbog .

For 21 years there has been a partnership with the Heimatverein Schwabeck in the community of Feldheim (Niederschönenfeld) near Niederschönenfeld in Bavaria. Also for 20 years there has been a friendly relationship with the sports club SV Eintracht Feldheim 81 eV and the sports club SV Balkhausen in Seeheim-Jugenheim in Hesse. Regular visits are carried out especially on club anniversaries.

Building design and development

A valid local planning statute does not exist. During all renovation work, care was taken to observe and maintain the characteristic origin. Particularly when renovating the facade, care is taken to ensure that the design is based on the historical model, if possible. Agricultural buildings that were no longer used for their original purpose were demolished and the land was sold. The energetic point of view is increasingly being considered. In Feldheim and Schwabeck, individual properties are equipped with solar systems on the roof for self-sufficiency.

The Feldheim sports field has very special equipment. With the support of sponsors, a floodlight system and a children's playground could be built. Part of the property was paved and a dance floor was made to hold numerous events. Schwabeck uses the former fire station as a common room for events. The maintenance of the facilities is carried out exclusively by the sports club.

The active volunteer fire department Feldheim provides fire protection and general help. Your domicile is a modern fire station in the center of the village. The building has had a heating system and sanitary facilities since 2009.

Fountain

Feldheim has its own waterworks at the north exit of the village, which was technically modernized in 2000. In 2008 the facade and outdoor facilities were renewed. Several villages are now being supplied with drinking water. The water is pumped through three wells (drilling depth 80 m). The visible mountain of water is an underground container right next to the waterworks and is used to store the water. In 2009, as part of the relocation of the local heating and electricity network, a new drinking water pipe was laid from the waterworks to all households.

The old wells for water supply in Schwabeck are also worth mentioning. Originally, in the 19th century, the wells were used for their own water supply until a pumping station was built in Feldheim around 1900 for both villages. After the Schwabeck Heimatverein was founded in 1997, the fountains were renewed again. The newly designed fountains are an old tradition at village festivals.

church

Church in Feldheim

The churches in Feldheim and Schwabeck are to be named as specific architectural monuments. In both villages the churches were built in the 13th to 14th centuries.

The church in Feldheim is located in the center of the village on the west side and is surrounded by the cemetery. In 1813 the church was completely destroyed by the French. The teacher and sexton Johann Friedrich Simon repaired the church in the period from 1828 to 1830. It was torn down to the foundation walls below the lower edge of the window and rebuilt from bricks according to plans by Friedrich Schinkel in the classicist style, but without a tower. Meanwhile, services were held in rectories. In 1932, a tower was placed on the Feldheim church as a roof turret and equipped with a bell. Interior renovation work was carried out a year later. In 2010 the church received an electricity connection through the Feldheim project - an energy self-sufficient district . The exterior facade was also renovated, including the replacement of the window panes based on the historical model. The window frames have been preserved. In 2011, after around 40 years, the completely destroyed organ was repaired. The interior renovation and fitting of lamps is also planned for this year.

Church in Schwabeck

The church in Schwabeck is located at the southern end of the village and is surrounded by the cemetery. Originally the church was made of field stones as a simple rectangular church with a north portal and a priest's gate on the north side. In the 18th century the church was enlarged on the east side using bricks. At the beginning of the 20th century, the windows were changed in a neo-Gothic style, the church was completely renovated and a roof tower and bell were added. The last renovation was in 1964.

War victims are also buried in the Protestant cemeteries in Feldheim and Schwabeck.

Green design

In both districts, the open space design on the public areas mostly consists of lawns, occasionally with trees or bushes. The public lawn at the village pond is to be embellished in the future through a redesign with species-typical trees. A concept is not yet available. The Feldheim cemetery has old trees, including oak and maple. The maintenance of the lawns in the cemeteries is carried out by the church office or through the work of the villagers. The war graves are cared for by villagers on a voluntary basis. The green areas on the public property are maintained by the building yard. The public property areas in front of the residential buildings are maintained by the residents. The village ponds in Feldheim, Schwabeck and Schwabeck / Gasthof serve as extinguishing water ponds.

Existing linear wood structures are preserved or newly created. Hybrid poplars or bushes in windbreaks and rows of trees are replaced by native woody plants such as common oak , field elm , birch , aspen or fruit trees .
