Despite the cold, the hardness and the weight of their material, Schad's steel sculptures are reminiscent of something vegetable. Steel struts made of solid square steel, welded like a joint at the corners, grow gracefully, almost dance-like in the air. One almost thinks to have a snapshot of a fleeting movement in front of you. It is therefore not surprising that Robert Schad also works with dancers and choreographers and makes video films. Ambivalences in the contrasts such as "dancers weighing tons - light", "steely - vegetable" or "rigid - dynamic" are recurring themes in his works. His sculptural “drawings” and gestures often reach the height of full-grown trees or buildings.
