The Rochowsee is a lake in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district of Brandenburg . The border with Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania runs along the northern shore of the lake . It belongs to the Rheinsberg Lake District in the Stechlin-Ruppiner Land Nature Park . The lake has an area of 31.9 hectares and is up to 16 meters deep.

The name of the lake (formerly Rockowsee ) is derived from the old Polish word 'rak' for 'cancer'.

The Rochowsee belongs to the course of the Rhin river , which flows from the source lake Twernsee through a gradually silting connection into the Rochowsee and then over an approximately 300-meter-long artificial river into the Giesenschlagsee . It belongs to the FFH area "Wummsee and Twernsee", which was formed in 2016 by amalgamating the FFH areas "Rochowsee and Plötzensee", "Wummsee and Twernsee" and "Expansion of Wumm and Twernsee".

The lake was classified as mesotrophic for 2006 and was dominated by candy algae . By 2011 these had almost completely disappeared; today the thousand-leaf plants predominate . Also submerged growing mare's tail can be found. Several species of fish can be found in the lake, including eels , perch , bream , white bream , pike , roach , rudd and tench . Were exposed vendace , carp and catfish . There is hardly any commercial fishing.

The northern bank of the lake is undeveloped, on the southern bank there is a strip of bungalows. The undeveloped areas are mainly overgrown with beech and pine trees. About 1.5 hectares are designated as BVVG area . Nearby places in Brandenburg are the districts of Luhme , Zechlinerhütte , Flecken Zechlin and Kleinzerlang von Rheinsberg and in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania the district Diemitz and the residential area Fleether Mühle von Mirow and the community of Schwarz .
