action
Rocky (1976)
Rocky is about the undisputed world heavyweight boxing champion, Apollo Creed, who has to find a new opponent by breaking off the fight at short notice. Because timely agreements with well-known boxers are not possible, Creed decides to give a "nobody" the chance to fight for the boxing world championship. That “nobody” is Rocky Balboa from Philadelphia, who leads a humble life as an amateur boxer and money collector. Contrary to expectations, Rocky manages to stand up to the world champion and an exciting fight.
Rocky II (1979)
The immediate sequel called Rocky II shows how Rocky has to deal with the skyrocketing popularity and wealth and also receives the chance for a rematch against the reigning world champion, Apollo Creed.
Rocky III: The Eye of the Tiger (1982)
In Rocky III - The Tiger's Eye , Rocky loses the title to Clubber Lang and tries to regain it; while he is - after the death of his trainer Mickey - looked after by Apollo Creed, with whom he befriends.
Rocky IV: The Fight of the Century (1985)
Rocky IV - The Fight of the Century first shows how Apollo Creed takes on Russian boxer Ivan Drago. However, Creed massively underestimates the Russians. Not only does he get knocked out , he even loses his life. Rocky ultimately decides to fight Drago in the Soviet Union . The duel between the American and the Russian is under the sign of the Cold War of both nations.
Rocky V (1990)
The fifth part immediately follows on from Rocky IV . After beating Drago and returning from Russia, Rocky loses all of his belongings to windy businessmen. He returns with his family to his old Philadelphia neighborhood. Once there, Rocky is building a successor named Tommy "The Machine" Gunn as a trainer, who is increasingly becoming the focus of profitable boxing promoters.
Rocky Balboa (2006)
The film Rocky Balboa shows an aged Rocky who mourns his wife who died years ago and who has a tense relationship with his now grown-up son. But Rocky wants to prove it again to everyone and especially to himself and competes in an exhibition match against the current heavyweight world champion Mason "The Line" Dixon.
Creed - Rocky's Legacy (2015)
A spin-off of the series appeared under the title Creed - Rocky's Legacy . Rocky meets the son of his friend Apollo Creed. He asks the ex-world champion to train him.
Creed II - Rocky's Legacy (2018)
In the immediate sequel to Creed - Rocky's Legacy , Adonis is world heavyweight champion and, as a result, challenged by Ivan Drago's son. Donnie and his girlfriend Bianca are also planning their future together.
Rocky VII / IX
After Creed II should have been Rocky's last appearance, Stallone surprised in May 2019 by saying that he had come up with ideas for a seventh Rocky film. The first content has already been distributed. According to this, Rocky could become a mentor for a street boxer who immigrated illegally to the USA. Stallone apparently also has a current political statement in mind in this film, as the two protagonists are also supposed to move south across the Mexican border. The topic is "very, very contemporary." It is still unclear whether this film - which should be called Rocky IX if the spin-offs are counted - will be made.

background
- On December 18, 2012, Rocky - The Musical , which is based on the first Rocky film, celebrated its world premiere at the TUI Operettenhaus in Hamburg . It was also performed at the Winter Garden Theater in New York City from March to August 2014 .
- Rocky IV is the only part in which the song Take you back by Stallone's brother Frank does not appear. Otherwise it appears in every part, sometimes in a modified form (in part 3 as soul, part 5 in rap version).
- The stairs that Rocky climbs up during training and the place where he then cheers up and arms up are part of the Philadelphia Museum of Art .
- For many visitors to Philadelphia and fans of the Rocky films, it is now a ritual, just like Rocky, to run up the stairs of the museum and cheer.
- A bronze statue of Rocky made for Rocky III by the American sculptor A. Thomas Schomberg (* 1943) is now in front of the museum on a park path and shows the boxer in a jubilant pose.
