geography

Rothenhof is located about eight kilometers northeast of Coburg on the southeast slope of the vineyard. There are communal roads to Einberg and Kipfendorf.

history

Rothenhof was first mentioned in a document in 1452. The monastery Mönchröden in Rothenhof owned goods and rights .

A narrow, inconspicuous access route spared the place during the Thirty Years' War . There was a manor with a castle in Rothenhof , the owners of which changed repeatedly over the centuries. The last lords of Rothenhof were those of Schönstadt and Rauhaupt in 1743. In 1783 the village had five houses in which 21 adults and 15 children lived. In 1804 the manor fell back to the sovereignty and became a chamber property of Duke Franz Anton , who had the dilapidated castle demolished. In 1868 the land was sold to local farmers.

From the 16th century the Rothenhofer children went to school in Einberg, about three kilometers away. Later the village had a preceptor . From 1842 the school in Einberg was responsible again, before Rothenhof and Kipfendorf left the Einberg school association in 1875 and built a joint school in Kipfendorf. From 1908, the Rothenhofer students finally had their own school house. Since joining the Einberg School Association in 1967, students have been taking the school bus to Einberg.

The volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1875, the gymnastics club in 1891, the fruit and horticultural club in 1904 and the workers' choral society in 1920. In a referendum on 30 November 1919 four Roth Hofer citizens to join the agreed State of Coburg the Thuringian State and 110 against. From July 1, 1920, Rothenhof belonged to the Free State of Bavaria .

On January 1, 1971, Rothenhof merged with the communities of Einberg, Kipfendorf, Mönchröden, Oeslau and Unterwohlsbach to form the unified community of Rödental. In 1987 the village comprised 368 people, 100 residential buildings and 131 apartments.
