Roy Dotrice , OBE , (born May 26, 1923 in Guernsey , Channel Islands , † October 16, 2017 in London ) was a British actor and audio book speaker .

Life

Roy Dotrice was born in 1923 on the British Channel Island of Guernsey . When he was captured while serving in World War II , he discovered acting. After returning from Germany , he studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1957 .

In the 1970s he went to the United States , where he made a name for himself as a supporting actor in films and television series. He appeared particularly frequently in the fantasy genre, but also took on the role of Leopold Mozart in Miloš Forman's film drama Amadeus . He also took on numerous roles on Broadway , where he won a Tony Award for his appearance in Eugene O'Neill's A Moon for the Loaded . He most recently appeared in the role of alchemist Hallyne in the television series Game of Thrones in 2012 . Dotrice had previously read in all of The Song of Ice and Fire novels as audio books. In 2011, he received the world record for most character voices in an audiobook for his recording of " A Game of Thrones, " which contained 224.

Roy Dotrice was married to his colleague Kay Dotrice from 1947 until her death in 2007 . Their three daughters Karen , Michele and Yvette are also actresses.

Awards

For his performance in the play A Moon for the laden (A Moon for the Misbegotten) Dotrice was a Tony Award as Best Supporting Actor award.
