Rudolf Hoke
Rudolf Hoke (born August 15, 1929 in Duisburg ) is an Austrian legal historian and emeritus professor at the University of Vienna .
Life
Hoke studied law and political science in Vienna , both of which he completed with a doctorate. From 1956 he became Wilhelm Wegener's first assistant at Saarbrücken University . In 1966 , Hoke completed his habilitation with a thesis on the doctrine of imperial state law by Johannes Limnaeus . After completing his habilitation, he initially worked as a private lecturer and then as a professor at Saarbrücken University . From 1967 to 1969 he was a senator on the governing body of this university.
The constitutional history of the German Empire ( Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation ) and the positions represented therein (in the so-called “ Reichspublizistik ”) remained one of the focal points of Hoke's academic work. They formed the basis of a series of lecture tours to France and Italy and of publications in these countries.
In 1971 he was appointed to the University of Vienna as the successor to the late Hans Lentze . Rudolf Hoke was a professor at the Institute for German Law and Austrian Constitutional and Administrative History until his retirement in 1997. Like his colleague Werner Ogris, he was chairman of this institute for a long time. From 1979 to 1981 he was dean of the Vienna Faculty of Law .
His research areas were Austrian and German legal history, history of science, canon law and German private law.
In September 1996 Rudolf Hoke co-organized the 31st German Legal Historians' Day in Vienna with Werner Ogris. As co-editor of the legal history series , he was involved in looking after over a hundred specialist publications. Ilse Reiter-Zatloukal was the post-doctoral candidate he was supervising.
