Rudolf von Gotsch (born October 21, 1804 in Aschersleben , † January 20, 1888 in Neustrelitz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Rudolf was a son of Lieutenant Colonel and District Brigadier of the Gendarmerie Gotthilf Friedrich von Gotsch (1767-1859) and his wife Henriette, born von Beyer (1775-1835).

Life

Gotsch visited the Berlin Cadet House and was transferred to the 7th Cuirassier Regiment of the Prussian Army on October 12, 1822 as a Second Lieutenant . From October 15, 1825 to August 16, 1828 he was assigned to the General War School for further training . From 1832 to 1842 he was used as a regimental adjutant and in the meantime was promoted to prime lieutenant in early March 1834 . This was followed by a command to the topographic office until 1843 . On May 1, 1843, he came to the General Staff of the Guard Corps as a captain . Gotsch advanced to major on July 22, 1848 and was appointed to the General Staff of III on September 2, 1848 . Army Corps transferred. On March 22, 1849 he was assigned to the General Staff of the Commander-in-Chief of the Reichsheer destined for Schleswig. During the war against Denmark he fought in the skirmishes at Almind and Diuf. For Vejle Gotsch received the Red Eagle Order IV Class with Swords and the Knight's Cross of the Military Order of St. Henry .

On November 4, 1851, he was posted to Lieutenant General Roth von Schreckenstein and in late summer 1852 took part as an observer in the Austrian cavalry maneuvers near Pest . Gotsch rose to lieutenant colonel on March 22, 1853, became commander of the 8th Cuirassier Regiment on May 4, 1854, and in this position was promoted to colonel on October 15, 1856 . On March 18, 1858 he was transferred to the 4th Cavalry Brigade and his position à la suite of his previous regiment. There he became major general on May 31, 1859 and received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class, with oak leaves and swords on the ring on June 3, 1860.
