Rudolf von Thile
Rudolf Bernhard Alexander von Thile (born May 7, 1826 in Berlin , † September 18, 1893 in Halle (Saale) ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .
Life
family
Rudolf von Thile came from an old Prussian family of officers and officials. His parents were the Prussian infantry general Adolf Eduard von Thile and his wife Auguste Ulrike Antoinette, née von Schöning (1788-1859). His grandfather was the Prussian lieutenant general Alexander Heinrich von Thile , his great grandfather the Prussian major and later Electorate General Friedrich Leopold von Thile (1711–1779) and his great-great-grandfather the Kurbrandenburg colonel Martin von Thile . The State Secretary in the Foreign Office Hermann von Thile and the Prussian infantry general Hugo von Thile were his brothers. His great-grandfather's brothers were Major General Friedrich Wilhelm von Thile and War and Domain Councilor Carl Gottfried von Thile . The Prussian general Ludwig Gustav von Thile was his uncle. His brother-in-law was the Prussian district president Gustav von Diest .
Military career
Thile attended the Friedrichs-Gymnasium in Frankfurt (Oder) and the Gymnasium in Koblenz . Then he joined the 7th Uhlan Regiment of the Prussian Army on October 1, 1844 as a one-year volunteer . End of the month he was a student at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn enroll and studied later at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Berlin law . In 1845 he became a member of the Corps Borussia Bonn . After graduating, he began a legal career as an auscultator at the Berlin Court of Appeal . On January 1, 1848, Thile was transferred to the 2nd Battalion of the 24th Landwehr Regiment and promoted there on October 15, 1848 to Second Lieutenant. As such he came on March 6, 1849 to the Kaiser Franz Garde Grenadier Regiment No. 2 in Berlin. Here he was used from June 1852 to the end of August 1855 as an adjutant of the 1st Battalion and subsequently had the same function in the 2nd Guard Infantry Brigade and the General Command of the Guard Corps . On February 19, 1859, he was transferred to the Great General Staff as Prime Lieutenant . Promoted to captain on July 11, 1859 , Thile served on the General Staff of the Guard Corps from July 25, 1859. From March 5, 1863 to June 24, 1864 he was company commander in the Fusilier Regiment No. 41 , then returned to the General Staff for a short time as a major and was transferred from there to the General Staff of the 14th Division on July 30, 1864 .
In this position Thile took part in the fighting at Münchengrätz and Königgrätz in 1866 during the war against Austria . After the peace treaty was transferred to the General Staff of the 19th Division , Thile was commissioned on March 22, 1868, Lieutenant Colonel and on June 18, 1869 with the management of the business of the Chief of the General Staff of the IV Army Corps . Confirmed in this position on October 21, 1869 and promoted to colonel on July 26, 1870 , Thile took part in the fighting at Beaumont and Sedan as well as the siege of Paris and the bombardment of Toul in 1870/71 during the war against France . Awarded for his achievements with both classes of the Iron Cross and the Commander II class of the Albrecht Order , Thile was finally appointed commander of the 3rd Guards Regiment on July 4, 1872 . In position à la suite of this regiment, Thile was released from this command on October 14, 1874 and commissioned with the command of the 4th Guard Infantry Brigade. With his promotion to major general commander, he was appointed inspector of hunters and riflemen on October 28, 1875. At the same time, he was entrusted with the management of the commander of the Reitende Feldjägerkorps . In the rank of division commander since November 18, 1880, Thile was appointed commander of the 20th division in Hanover on March 12, 1881 . Due to his poor health, Thile was transferred to the officers of the army on July 7, 1883, after he had already been given three months' leave to recover. Since no improvement in his condition was to be expected, Thile was put up for disposal on July 12, 1884 with a pension and the award of the Crown Order, 1st class with swords on the ring .
He died unmarried and after his death was buried in the crypt of the von Diest family in Merseburg .
