Rupert Ferdinand Carl Thaddäus Antonius Maria Graf zu Stolberg-Stolberg (born July 29, 1970 in Salzburg ) is a German Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising .

Rupert Graf zu Stolberg-Stolberg comes from the noble family Stolberg . He is the youngest of four sons from the marriage of Georg Graf zu Stolberg-Stolberg (1927–2011) and Marie-Gabrielle Countess zu Stolberg-Stolberg born. Freiin von und zu Franckenstein (* 1931), who comes from the princely house of Schönburg-Hartenstein on her mother's side. His brother Ferdinand (1964–1970) died in 1970 at the age of only five.

Life

Rupert Graf zu Stolberg-Stolberg grew up in Passau. After graduating from the High School Leopoldinum 1990 he worked in a Mexican Indio - Mission and then began a medical school , but moved to Catholic theology and entered 1998 in the Archbishop's Seminary of St. John the Baptist of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising one. After graduating as a graduate theologian, he worked as a deacon in the Upper Bavarian Parish Association of Schönberg from 2001 to 2003 . On 28 June 2003 he received in Freising Mariendom the ordination and celebrated in July 2003, the first Mass in the Passauer Sanctuary Mariahilf .

In 2003 he was chaplain in the parish of St. Michael in Munich district of Perlach on Pfanzeltplatz . From 2005 to 2011 he was Archbishop's Secretary to Cardinal Friedrich Wetter (2005–2008) and Cardinal Reinhard Marx (2008–2011). From 2011 to 2012 he was in the HR department of the Archbishop's Ordinariate as head of department for the priests of the pastoral care regions North and South. He has been cathedral vicar since 2011, and cathedral chapter since 2013 . On January 1, 2013, Graf zu Stolberg succeeded the auxiliary bishop emeritus Engelbert Siebler as episcopal vicar for the pastoral care region of Munich and was introduced to his office on January 21 in the Bürgersaalkirche . In 2013 Rupert Graf zu Stolberg was appointed Commander of the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Edwin Frederick Cardinal O'Brien and invested in Jerusalem on September 28, 2013 by Fouad Twal , the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem and Grand Prior of the Knightly Order. In 2018 he was appointed Grand Officer. Since 2019 he has succeeded Abbot Hermann Josef Kugler OPraem Prior of the Order of Bavaria.

Pope Francis appointed him titular bishop of Sassura and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising on October 28, 2016 . The episcopal ordination received his Archbishop Reinhard Cardinal Marx on 10 December of the same year in Liebfrauendom ; Co- consecrators were Friedrich Cardinal Wetter , archbishop emeritus of Munich and Freising, and Bernhard Haßlberger , auxiliary bishop in the archbishopric of Munich and Freising. Rupert Graf zu Stolberg's motto for his office is: Spiritus virtutis, dilectionis et sobrietatis - "Spirit of strength, love and prudence" ( 2 Tim 1,7  EU ). The bishop's coat of arms shows the Freising Mohrenkopf as a symbol for the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, the fish and key in the coat of arms symbolize St. Benno as Munich's patron saint. The star of the sea in his coat of arms stands for Father Rupert Mayer , who was highly revered and beatified in Munich . There is also a black stag on a golden background, the heraldic animal of the Stolberg family . Zu Stolberg is one of three auxiliary bishops who, as episcopal vicars, each look after one of the three pastoral care regions in the archbishopric. In addition to Rupert Graf zu Stolberg, there are Bernhard Haßlberger for the pastoral care region north and Wolfgang Bischof for the pastoral care region south.

In the German Bishops 'Conference , zu Stolberg is a member of the Journalism Commission and the German Bishops' Conference # Migration Commission .
