Schaffhausen S-Bahn

The Schaffhausen S-Bahn , which went into full operation when the timetable changed in December 2015, expanded the public transport offer in the Schaffhausen region. The S-Bahn exists on the route network of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and the Deutsche Bahn (DB), whereby individual sections have been electrified and additional stops have been created.

The idea was launched by Pro Bahn Schweiz in Infoforum 2 (2004) and proposals by Cantonal Councilors Iren Eichenberger and Martina Munz . The canton council referred the postulate to the government council on June 12, 2006 with 64 votes to 0 . On June 6, 2011, the Cantonal Council approved a credit line of 74.86 million Swiss francs and voted with 51 to 0 votes in favor of the construction of the Schaffhausen S-Bahn. On September 25, 2011, the electorate of the canton of Schaffhausen approved the credit line with a yes share of 76%. All 27 municipalities spoke out in favor of the S-Bahn project.

The aim of the S-Bahn Schaffhausen project was to take over half of the traffic growth of the next 20 years and thus also relieve the roads. In order to achieve this goal, the canton of Schaffhausen had to create the following offers:

  • Diameter lines through the canton of Schaffhausen (more direct connections)
  • Every half hour on all railway lines and stops in the canton
  • Every quarter of an hour between the development centers during rush hour
  • New stops in priority areas. New: Neuhausen Rheinfall SBB , Beringen Beringerfeld DB . Updated: Schaffhausen SBB / DB Bahnhof , Schaffhausen Herblingen DB , Thayngen DB station , the train station Jestetten .
  • Increased comfort for travelers through better rolling stock and a new information system

Activities

New infrastructures were necessary so that the offer could be implemented as planned. All projects could be realized by December 2015:

    • Turning track in Jestetten (CHF 3.4 million)
    • New station Neuhausen Rheinfall at the SIG area (10.6 million Swiss francs)
    • Upgrade of the Herblingen station (5.8 million Swiss francs)

Previous infrastructure expansion

In addition, the canton of Schaffhausen had already implemented various expansion projects in the previous years, which were also designed with the Schaffhausen S-Bahn in mind.

  • Repeal of the Beringen Enge level crossing (2004)
  • Cancellation of the Zollstrasse Neuhausen level crossing (2007 to 2009)
  • Double-track expansion of the Erzingen – Schaffhausen DB line (19 kilometers, 53 million euros , fully financed by Deutsche Bahn)
  • Klettgau rail and bus concept: Removal of the Neunkirch and Wilchingen level crossings , upgrading of the stations, speed increase to 160 km / h (2010 to 2012, 34 million Swiss francs)
  • Jestetten double lane expansion and upgrading station ( HGV connection)

The federal government contributed 15.32 million Swiss francs to the total costs of 74.86 million Swiss francs as part of the agglomeration program, the canton took over 45.85 million Swiss francs and the municipalities had to contribute 13.69 million Swiss francs.
