Salvador Rivas Martínez (in bibliographic citations also: Salvador Rivas-Martinez) (born July 16, 1935 in Madrid ) is a biologist , pharmacist , botanist , mycologist , pteridologist , university teacher and Spanish mountaineer. He had been a member of the Real Academia de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales since March 23, 1983 . Its botanical author abbreviation is " Rivas Mart. "

Education, profession and positions

Salvador Rivas Martínez received his PhD in pharmacy in 1961 .

In 1967 he obtained a degree in biology . He was Professor of Botany at the Pharmaceutical Faculty of the University of Barcelona . Salvador Rivas Martínez was appointed Full Professor of the Plant Biology II Department of the Pharmaceutical Faculty of the Complutense University of Madrid , which he was Director.

Salvador Rivas Martínez had been a mountaineer since he was 12 years old . In the 1960s he took part in a Spanish expedition to the great massifs of the world. In 1961 he climbed the 6768 m high Nevado Huascarán in the Andes . His companion Pedro Acuña died at this company. In 1968 he took part in an expedition to the Caucasus together with the Spanish mountaineers César Pérez de Tudela and Carlos Soria Fontán. In 1970 he climbed McKinley Peak in Alaska with Carlos Soria Fontán, Antonio Muñoz Repiso and others . In 1973 and 1975, Salvador Rivas Martínez was a participant in Spanish expeditions that tried to climb the 8,163 m high Manaslu . Salvador Rivas Martínez managed to penetrate up to an altitude of 8000 m.
