Salvatore Loiero

Salvatore Loiero (* 1973 in Aschaffenburg ) is a Roman Catholic practical theologian . He has been Professor of Pastoral Theology , Religious Education and Homiletics at the German-speaking Department of the University of Freiburg (Friborg) in Switzerland since 2014 and a Catholic priest since 2015 .

Life

As the son of an Italian guest worker family , Salvatore Loiero graduated from high school in 1995 at the Franz-Ludwig-Gymnasium in Bamberg . He then studied Catholic theology , philosophy and psychology at the Otto Friedrich University in Bamberg until 2000 . He wrote his theological thesis in the subject of dogmatics . From 2001 to 2005 he was a lecturer for theology in the department of social affairs at the University of Bamberg and a research assistant at the chair for dogmatics of the theological faculty. In 2005 he received his doctorate in Bamberg in the field of fundamental theology and theology of ecumenism .

This was followed by one year as a lecturer in dogmatics at the chair for Catholic theology of the Faculty of Cultural Studies at the University of Bayreuth , before he moved from 2006 to 2010 as a research assistant to the chair for pastoral theology at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt , where he later became an academic adviser . In 2009 habilitated to Loiero Eichstaett with a practical-theological study of experiential - and memory culture of religious reversal . With the award of the " Venia Legendi " he was appointed private lecturer for pastoral theology.

Loiero held various professorial positions at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. Until 2013 he was managing director of the agency for quality assurance and accreditation of canonical study programs in Germany (AKAST e.V.) in Ingolstadt . In autumn 2013 he was appointed to the chair for pastoral theology, religious education and homiletics at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Friborg in Switzerland, where he gave his inaugural lecture on May 28, 2014.

Salvatore Loiero received on 11 January 2015 Bishop Alain de Raemy the diaconate and was on 27 June of the same year by Bishop Charles Morerod OP for the diocese of Lausanne, Geneva and Friborg to ordained priests .

At the beginning of 2019, Salvatore Loiero was appointed by Pope Francis to the Advisory Board of the Agency of the Holy See for the Evaluation and Improvement of the Quality of Church Universities and Faculties ( AVEPRO ).

Work area

One focus of Loiero's work is the interdisciplinary networking between pastoral theology and religious education. He examines spaces and places with “disclosure potential”, transformation processes in Christian communities and pastoral services in the modern age and theological references in social contexts. He is particularly concerned with the pastoral care of gainful employment and the pastoral care of migrants. He deals with practical ecumenism with a focus on Eastern Church Studies . Further topics are the competence orientation in religious education, penance pastoral and so-called “indicative sermon” as places of the experience of faith.

Memberships

Salvatore Loiero is, among other things, President of the Working Group on Practical Theology Switzerland and Director of the Center for Comparative Pastoral Theology / Friborg.
